ValiantHobo, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

Building WiFi kernel drivers myself where on Windows its a double click, finding a desktop environment that lets you add a 2nd taskbar in the GUI without losing certain important items like the start menu, system clock, or system tray (I always lost something), finding replacements for certain niche Windows programs is frustrating (VoiceMeeter -> PipeWire), or completely absent, as my Oculus Rift and the Adobe Suite (which I need for my job) was unusable, and my Razer, Logitech, TourBox, Xence, and Elsra devices aren’t programmable, missing or bad support for basic features like multiple monitors and HDR, having to manually set AppImages to run as an application and not open like a file (I know it’s a file), but in the end, needing 2 GPU’s to virtualize a Windows machine officially ended my Linux dreams for the near future.

I use Mint, btw

Tb0n3,

Ah yes. Good ol Intel drivers or NDISwrapper. I’ve had zero issues these days, but it was bullshit in the past. Though saying that I think my wifi driver building was more to enable phy mode for messing with wifi hacking. WEP was broken beyond belief.

nac82, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

I have so many thousands of hours of rocket league across so many platforms at this point.

Worst part about transferring from console to PC was all my playtime data being lost.

TheDonkerZ,
@TheDonkerZ@lemmy.ca avatar

That was me too! I guessed I had around 2k hours in RL overall, but Destiny 2 has recently just eclipsed 2k hours on just PC. Probably have 2500 in that game total now.

jjjalljs, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Only when a general search brings me to it. I no longer scroll it or actively choose to visit.

in2thesame, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I completely stopped using it.

TORFdot0, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

I have kids so I have to rewatch a lot of movies against my will. I think we’ve watched boss baby 2 nearly every day since Memorial Day.

venusenvy47,

I was thinking of various movies that constantly run on TV, but your comment made me realize that Cars or Polar Express is probably the correct answer. My son was obsessed with those movies when he was young and we had them on constant rotation.

Carter, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?

I had a quick look online and it looks like the exact sort of pizza I try to avoid.

MigratingtoLemmy, in How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?

I sit and feel horrible about myself, mentally punishing myself for all of the mistakes. About an hour or two later, my mind gives up, and I become pragmatic.

TheButtonJustSpins, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

When I was a kid, Mrs. Doubtfire and The Santa Clause. I don’t rewatch movies as often as an adult.

THB, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

Raiders of the Lost Ark, Mad Max: Fury Road, A Knight’s Tale, Tokyo Godfathers, Life Aquatic.

I’ve seen them all at least 5-10 times fully and probably more times partially. It’s definitely a wide spectrum, and one of them is not what you would call a “good” movie compared to the others. I’ll let you decide which, but I’m hella not ashamed.

SpooneyOdin,

+1 for Mad Max: Fury Road. It’s such a great movie! I’ve put it on multiple times thinking I just want to re-watch one scene and it just sucks me in.

Gerryflap, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?
@Gerryflap@lemmy.world avatar

Nope, I’m European so I’ve never heard of it tbh. I like pizza, so I wouldn’t mind trying if I ever end up ip in the area somehow

wilberfan, in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@wilberfan@lemmy.world avatar

2001, close to 40 times…and only in theaters. (I’ve never watched it on TV.)

Boogie Nights, close to 50 times…perhaps half of those on the big screen.

Gatsby,

Goddamn Mr moneybags over here.

I literally don’t have anything valuable enough I could sell to afford 40 movie theatre tickets, other than my car

wilberfan,
@wilberfan@lemmy.world avatar

See my response (above)–that’s over many, many years.

MementoMori,

Was this all in one go or do you just have a local theater that really loves to show it?

wilberfan,
@wilberfan@lemmy.world avatar

Those viewings of “2001” are over a multi-year period, beginning in April, 1968. Same with “Boogie Nights”–many viewings since 1997.

Reddit_Is_Trash, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I’m the same way now, I used to use reddit daily.

Now, I only use it when I have question, I still google “my question” reddit.

Dylan96,
@Dylan96@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m mad every time i open that shitty app…god it’s bad compared to apollo

Reddit_Is_Trash,

I don’t have any reddit apps on my phone anymore.

If I go to reddit it’s through my browser with U-Block on, and I deleted my accounts so they gain nothing from me visiting.

wholemilk, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I don’t. I thought I would miss it a lot, but after replacing rif with lemmy and a few other apps I haven’t really been thinking about reddit recently.

Alirrasona, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

I use Linux full time now, with the exception of the Adobe suite, which runs in a VM right now and will be changed to a dual boot once I installed a second hard drive. I use GIMP and Inkscape where I can, but i need the big evil Corp software for bigger projects where the Foss software falls short.

If the software runs on Linux natively someday or a Foss alternative is on par, I will gladly make the full switch.

LostCause, in What is your dark figure/shadow person story?

Not sure if that is what you mean here, but when I was in University I started taking speed to try and keep up with studying despite my ADHD/depression.

And not just a bit either, but quite a lot and I must have overdone it and stayed up too many nights in a row once. I remember trying to go through my day, while I constantly spotted what could only be described as "shadow people", whenever I tried to directly look at them they would be gone, but then I‘d see it again just near the edges of my field of view. It was one very creepy day and what led to me finally admitting I can‘t do it anymore.

So I ended up dropping out, found a job in IT and got therapy and some more reasonable ADHD meds too. Still, I imagine that is what being schizophrenic might be like and I did not enjoy that at all.
