elsif, in Do you have a sibling? What is the relationship like?

I’m the oldest. I have a younger sister and brother.

We’re all close and extremely comfortable with each other, but they’re closer with each other than me, given their closeness in age.

I don’t live at home with them anymore, but our relationship always feels natural and picks up where it left off even after being away for so long. I think we’ve been fortunate in that we’ve never felt to the need to compete with each other, and I think of them as a constant in my life that that I can always count on

Edit: removed some age info

GrimSheeper, in Do you have a sibling? What is the relationship like?

I have two brothers. My younger brother is pretty cool - always kind and talkative, even though our interests don’t overlap much. He’s like an extroverted friend who always engaged with you, even if you don’t have much interesting to respond with.

My older brother and I barely know each other by now, but he seems to have invented a fictional version of me who he absolutely despises. Every time I see him, he gets quieter and quieter, and he regularly texts our mother with the most venomous insults and accusations he can sling my way. I’ve probably spoken fifty words to him in the last few years, but he’s fully convinced that I’m an evil person working to slight him at every turn.

I wonder sometimes if I should talk to him directly and ask what’s up, or if I should just write him off. Even my mother is confused as to why he’s like this.

Man these comment duplications are getting wild. 😆

GrimSheeper,

Oh yeah - the duplicate comments plus the length of the comment had me pretty embarrassed, lol

I still see two.

Probably a federation sync delay - I’m only seeing one at this point.

Today, in Do you have a sibling? What is the relationship like?

Only child, but i have a BIL. He’s an alcoholic asshole. I feel bad that I’m not closer with my niece and nephew. I know they could use some reasonable, loving adults in their lives.

raubarno, in Do you prefer PC or laptop?

Ideally, I’d use a high-performance stationary computer as a workstation and a laptop as a terminal (for small work and SSH access).

However, it would by more expensive, not power-efficient, you would always need an internet connection for your laptop, a static IP address and you will need to handle power outages/unexpected shutdowns for your computer.

Edit: So this is why I use a laptop nowadays.

Yearly1845, in Do you prefer PC or laptop?

For work I use a laptop

Hazzia, in Do you prefer PC or laptop?

Porqué no los dos?

But frfr I can’t imagine not having both. I’ve got enough power on my desktop to run modern games, do graphical rendering, run IDEs, and fuck around online pretty much simultaneously. Then I have a ThinkPad T14 for leaving the house to pretend I’m touching grass while actually just doing more developer shit.

buckykat, in Do you prefer PC or laptop?

Laptop and Chromebook are two very different things. A laptop is sufficient for any use case that doesn’t demand GPU power, but if you’re ever considering buying a “gaming” laptop, don’t. You can get a cheap laptop and a decent gaming desktop for the same price and they’ll last you longer and run better.

A Chromebook is just walled garden bullshit.

I just use my desktop on my lap. 🤷🏻‍♂️

they both have there pros and cons, but i prefer desktop becasue you can set up your own liitle computer area and desktops can be custimized more than a laptopbut laptops ar eportable and often cheaper and some things about a laptop can be anoying.

Contramuffin, in Do you prefer PC or laptop?

PC for most of my work, laptop for when I just need to access things from elsewhere. Although, I would never touch a Chromebook. Tried it, was very underwhelmed. IMO chromebooks defeat the purpose of a laptop. What’s the point of portability if you need wifi to use it?

rufus, in Do you prefer PC or laptop?

I like my thinkpad. the keyboard is okay. i don’t use the touchpad. i can carry it everywhere, take it to the livingroom or kitchen or watch a movie in bed. Downside is: i’d like to have more storage and RAM.

zerbey, in Do you prefer PC or laptop?

I have a laptop for work, it’s useful for that purpose because it’s portable. I’ve owned several personal laptops over the years and rarely used them because I just don’t need one. If I traveled more I’d consider buying one.

cwagner, in What's your favorite restaurant chain?

Technically, Mugg & Bean from South Africa. But that’s the chain they used to be, they changed their menu in major ways at some point between 2019 and 2023, and now it sucks :(

vashti, in What event did you miss that saved your life

Probably my closest call is going on holiday one week and not the next. A nail bomb went off at the bus stop I was at, exactly one week after I would have been waiting there.

I don’t know why it would require its own instance. Communities for debate could be created anywhere.
