RupeThereItIs, in What movie scared you shitless when you were a child?

Not a movie, but a ‘feature length music video’. Michael Jackson’s Thriller scared the ever living shit out of 5 or 6 year old me.

UnperfectOne, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

Some mountains are scaled, others are slain.

chicagohuman, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

Education is experience and the essence of experience is self-reliance.

RustedSwitch, in what band/song are you kinda ashamed you listening to as a kid?
@RustedSwitch@lemmy.world avatar

The last top-40’s song I memorized after listening to it so many times was Mr Big, be with you. A basic unrequited love song without much depth. I was 14.

It was around that time that my neighbor introduced me to Nine Inch Nails,and changed the course of my musical taste forever.

For a long time I was very focused on just industrial, grunge, ska, and electronic. I eventually started expanding into prog-like music from across genres (complex melodies and instrumentation, but not just rock, ie newgrass, IDM).

Eventually I met my now-wife and, while she already shared much of my taste spectrum, she also listened to pop charting stuff, and over the years I opened back up to it. Some of its not bad if you give it a chance. Bruno Mars is a legend!

No shame in Mr Big. Paul Gilbert is a guitar hero!

Ok - almost no shame…

Ha! I don’t know enough about the band to have heard of that guy! I’ll take your word for it 😜

“Waited on a line of greens and blues (waited on a line) Just to be the next to be with you”

That line just creeps me out.

Magrid, in How can I filter my Lemmy feed by language?
@Magrid@lemm.ee avatar

try going in the Lemmy settings and select your language, but note that most of the post is marked as “undefined” so it probably won’t make a big difference

theNoob,

Thanks. I’m using Android apps for Lemmy and Jerboa, Connect & Liftoff don’t show those settings. I just found them using Chrome

Magrid,
@Magrid@lemm.ee avatar

doesn’t Jerboa have it? If I remember correctly I saw it

IrrelevantBoB, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

“Solo sé que no sé nada” Sócrates

doktorRobot,

Except he said it in ancient Greek.

IrrelevantBoB,

You are right, but in my head it sounds in my native language.

@NPC all of them

Viking_Hippie, in What movie scared you shitless when you were a child?

For me it was Poltergeist 2. That really scared the shit out of 9yo me 😂

Latecoere, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?
@Latecoere@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Metal, the anime of music. Currently in a stoner and sludge phase.

fubo, in So, how does the fediverse work?

If you’re up for reading Internet standards documents, start here with the official standard for ActivityPub, the protocol that it’s all built on.

Swarfega, in What password manager do you recommend?

If you’re going through all your site’s changing passwords maybe take a look at simplelogin.io to also hide your email address. Some sites block you, which is ridiculous, but for the majority of sites it’s a good idea.

stilgar, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?
@stilgar@infosec.pub avatar

I’m tempted to upgrade for:

  • Wireless charging
  • 5G

But I’m not that tempted so I haven’t done it, still very happy with my Oneplus 7T from 2020.

fixxundfertig, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Exactly this. I bought a Oneplus 7 Pro for AUD $750 ($500 USD) in early 2020 and tried to “upgrade” to an iPhone 13 Pro recently. Ended up giving it to my husband and have no plans on getting a new phone again until this one dies. This phone was the last good Oneplus phone before they started transitioning to…whatever they are now. I’ve rooted it, I’ve switched ROMs a few times, I’ve unrooted it and gone back to stock ROM. Love this 2019 phone that seems to be unlike anything else available in the market rn.

lietuva,

Rocking op7pro too here. Changed back covers 5 times already, swapped battery for a new one. Never owned a phone for that long and I have no intention on buying a new one.
