forrgott, in What butterfly effect have you personally witnessed?

I’m delivering papers, wee hours in the morning, middle of winter. Just had a storm recently, so roads were rather icy. Go to cross the street when my dog starts acting all weird, won’t let me cross. Just as I’m getting frustrated, suddenly a pickup truck comes barreling around the corner. Driver immediately loses control on the ice, truck goes into a sideways slide at a pretty high speed.

That truck missed me by maybe a foot at most.

NegentropicBoy, in What butterfly effect have you personally witnessed?

A hot dry windy day in summer, this guy rings my friend to complain about my friend parking near his house. My friend goes over to talk it over and notices a transformer is sparking onto dry grass, alerts fire people, saves town.

64bit, in How often do you brush your teeth?

When I wake up and before bed

jballs,
@jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

Same, but I’ve combined my teeth brushing with showering. It gives you a nice excuse to zone out in the shower for just a bit longer.

keenanpepper,

Pro tip: if you call zoning out “meditating” (because that’s what it is) it makes you feel more put-together and successful. Congrats on your practice of hydrotherapy meditation.

Ooo that’s fancy, I like it!

64bit,

I just wander about the house brushing my teeth, that way I’m not stuck just standing in the bathroom

CmdrShepard,

How do you keep from making a mess? I look like I have an advanced case of rabies when I brush mine.

64bit,

With skill and a little flair x

Nah idk, I can’t do it for long ofc cause toothpaste has that habit of becoming a little too minty and then a little painful but it’s only messy if I’m trying to have a conversation mid brush.

Which btw, happens, if I’m walking about brushing my teeth, chances are I’ll be attempting to respond to people lmao

MeetInPotatoes, in Can someone still viewing Reddit explain how it is doing as of right now in terms of content quality and engagement?

Ok i avoided replying to this for long enough. Based on your requirements, I’m making the following recommendations:

  • Nutrient-rich meal replacement bars: These bars are designed to provide a balanced mix of macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein, and fat) and essential vitamins and minerals. They are often fortified to meet nutritional needs, making them a convenient and space-saving option. However, they should not be relied upon as the sole source of nutrition for an extended period of time.
  • Dried fruits and nuts: Dried fruits are a concentrated source of natural sugars, fiber, and some essential nutrients. They provide energy and can help satisfy hunger. Nuts, on the other hand, are a good source of healthy fats, protein, and fiber. They offer satiety and provide a range of beneficial nutrients.
  • Jerky: Jerky, typically made from lean meats, is a good source of protein and can provide energy. It is compact, lightweight, and doesn’t require refrigeration. Be mindful of the sodium content.
  • Meal replacement shakes: These shakes are formulated to provide a balance of macronutrients and essential micronutrients. They often contain protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, and a blend of vitamins and minerals. They are easy to consume and require minimal preparation.
  • Energy gels: Energy gels are designed to provide quick energy in the form of simple carbohydrates. They are often used by athletes during intense physical activities. While they offer a rapid energy boost, they do not provide substantial nutrients beyond carbohydrates.

Glad you got an actual reply, but your post is unexpectedly funny at first read. This is definitely going in the Lemmy hall of fame whether you like it or not - congrats!

ComeScoglio,

Some dried fruits are notoriously good for helping bowel movement, though, just be aware.

flint5436,

Aren't some dried fruit laxative? Ate a bag of dates once, and boy did I have to run to the shitter.

malcriada_lala, in Whaf do you think of hosting an AMA with John Oliver to make Lemmy/kbin officially a viable Reddit replacement?

I support this. How do we make it happen?

I think there's one important question we haven't covered yet. Do you also need to limit the amount you fart?

Because that could affect food choice. Or is that not a factor and you'll be able to discretely let loose somewhere?

brav0zulu, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?
@brav0zulu@midwest.social avatar

I didn’t see this answer, so sorry if it’s been said, but just don’t eat. It’s three days, after all. Incidentally I’ve read that if you ate solely what your body needed to survive, it would take 20-40 days to even build up enough waste to have to poop.

Wreckronomicon,

This might cause a different problem...runny shit and then they'll have no choice but to poop.

Stalinwolf,
@Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca avatar

Holy shit. Alright, so naturally I have to ask if it's possible to eat just what you need to survive and still remain somewhat healthy. Or are you slowly withering at this point? What's the middle-ground here? How long can a person survive on just the bare minimum before their body becomes too weak?

Crackhappy,
@Crackhappy@lemmy.world avatar

This is absolutely correct. You can survive just fine for three days with no food. You'll be tired and cranky but alive.

MargotRobbie, in Whaf do you think of hosting an AMA with John Oliver to make Lemmy/kbin officially a viable Reddit replacement?
@MargotRobbie@lemmy.world avatar

Other thought: I think in recent years, AMAs have been trending towards decentralization towards the individual subreddit level anyways, because neat people want to interact with groups that would be interested in what they are saying, otherwise they are going to get drowned out by the noise in something big like r/iama.

Which means that the only people who are going to do an AMA on a big, general subreddits are mostly people who have a lot of money and influence to sell things to the biggest audience, like to promote a major blockbuster, for example.

So, if we have a big Last Week Tonight fan community on Lemmy, yeah, let's welcome John Oliver there, but he's not going to come to help ex-redditors spite promote Lemmy, what's in it for him?

Since decentralization is the way forward for the Fediverse, AMAs should be decentralized toward the community level anyways, and maybe with a dedicated community to aggregate them across the Fediverse, having a centralized instance solely for AMAs is what led reddit down its current path.

fruitywelsh,

I mean, being a death nail on a corporation’s IPO for spite and content is on brand for him

MargotRobbie,
@MargotRobbie@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, but why would he want to jump straight into the mess instead of watching from the sidelines and write jokes about it?

Can you imagine the questions that's going to be asked on Lemmy if he actually does do an AMA?

  • "Uh, what do you think about reddit closing its API access so there's no third party apps any more"
  • "How do you feel that reddit userbase is spamming with your pictures instead posting normal content?"
  • "Horse sized duck or duck sized horse?"
  • "Upboat to fuck spez am I right?"
  • "More sexy pictures pls."

See?
