starbreaker, in What's the purpose of strategy statements and other "corporate plans" in office culture
@starbreaker@kbin.social avatar

Nobody in management wants to admit the truth: the corporation exists to further enrich its already wealthy owners. That sort of mission statement, however accurate, isn't going to inspire anybody to buy into the corporate culture, let alone put in unpaid overtime by working more than 40 hours a week on a salary.

rob299, in When searching for Lemmy communities do you sort by new, old or top hour etc

I feel sorting top 6 hours would make more sense for me if I were sorting posts/coments within a community itself, because I would want the newest posts, but at that point I just defualt to new anyways.

But when searching for communities, personally i’m not for sorting it by hours or days because I want to make sure a community has an ok track record of being active, but at the same time i’m not wanting to keep a monopoly so that’s why I don’t go out of my way to sort the communities by top year or something like that because then we’d have another Google. I strive to strike a balence.

mryessir, in How do you deal with incompetence?

Naturally I cover up with more trivia and try switching switch to a more fundamental topic.

waz, in How do you deal with incompetence?

In others, I try to ignore it or find it amusing.

In myself, I try to learn things to keep it at bay.

Either active or top and then I just hide read.

Presi300, (edited ) in What's your favorite thing to dream about?
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

I’d tell you, if I could remember any of my dreams or what they were about

Toes, in When searching for Lemmy communities do you sort by new, old or top hour etc

I wish there was a super all button that did all the communities. But I generally sort by new.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in When searching for Lemmy communities do you sort by new, old or top hour etc

For burrows I always do it based on the number of people, and for posts and comments I always do it based on how new it is.

TheFeatureCreature, in When searching for Lemmy communities do you sort by new, old or top hour etc
@TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world avatar

New.

Presi300, in What are your thoughts on the concept of having faith in a Higher Power but choosing to distance oneself from established religious doctrines?
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t generally believe in a “higher power”, despite having religious parents, I never really understood it… I just don’t get how people can genuinely believe that there is a higher power that is somehow watching over everyone. That’s not to say tat religion is a bad thing. It’s not, in fact most non-radicalized religions have genuinely good teachings, be it Christianity, Buddhism or Islam (and others, again I’m not too into this stuff, these are just the religions I can speak semi-confidently about), they all fundamentally teach the same basic things, don’t be an asshole, live modestly, help others, etc… (yes I do know it’s MUCH more complicated than that).

That’s the way I ultimately see the “higher power”, as a way to get people to be good members of society by making them believe that there is a higher power that will bless them if they are.

jedi,

Yup, I don’t believe in divine intervention.

FireTower, in Am i the a**hole for telling my coworkers no?
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

If you are the asshole here it’d be because of how you relayed that.

monkeyman512, in Am i the a**hole for telling my coworkers no?

They have been told it’s their job. You have been told to not do their job. If they don’t like it they should bitch to the manager, not you.

snownyte, in Has Nintendo lost it's magic or is it just now waking up and making good games again - my thoughts included, but what are the views of Lemy users?
@snownyte@kbin.social avatar

Nintendo's first party games, their top priority is to make games as fun as possible. Looking for a Mario game to be 'good' in the standards of what you consider to be good, is like hoping one day a Kirby game becomes soulslike because you felt they're too easy. The thing with Mario games is that, everyone is going to have a handful of Mario games that they like and they'll have some that didn't do it for them. I personally think Super Mario World is some of the best well-packaged Mario games around and I think Mario Teaches Typing is hot garbage.

Piecemakers3Dprints, in Do we have enough coders to collaborate on an extension like this?
@Piecemakers3Dprints@lemmy.world avatar

How is this any different from using your favorite Lemmy client and simply watching whatever Piped, etc. vid within it?

Also, I second the “learn to code” sentiment. Otherwise, what exactly are you bringing to the table? Cash?

nix,
@nix@merv.news avatar

When you’re on YouTube/piped it automatically embeds the comments under the description. I think it’s obvious why that’s better than manually searching all of lemmy for each thread that has the same link

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Kinda ignoring the important statement/question…

Also, I second the “learn to code” sentiment. Otherwise, what exactly are you bringing to the table? Cash?

You want to look at Lemmy but block all comments? Do I have that right?

If you were trying to block ads, just use one of the apps that does so, like Connect.
