Wish I hadn’t googled it, so I’ll spare you a similar fate. The T stands for Torture and I don’t think anyone needs to know the other letters.

What is this fanfic about fat people being bullied at the gym? This never happens.

minyakcurry,

Who the fuck downvoted you? I’ve never encountered anyone bullying fat people in the gym before. Maybe these memers should actually go visit a gym.

teichflamme,

Yeah, this literally never happens. Every fit guy in the gym is rooting for the fat guy to make it.

SPRUNT, in New email from test@scam.com

My company sent me a fishing test email from a “no-reply@companyname.com” email address. I sent it to our security department and asked if I would ever get legitimate emails from that address. They never responded except to say that I passed the phishing test, so I set up a filter to automatically forward emails from that to our security department with a message questioning its validity. Let’s security tell me if emails are legit or not.

Concave1142,

My normal method is I will hit the phishing attempt icon that IT Security added to our Outlook on anything that I did not request or sign up for.

I’m sure the IT Security person who saw all the “free gift card” emails had a great Christmas if they claimed all the gift cards emails they deem legit.

IWantToFuckSpez, in Why can't we get our shit together?

Actually the Netherlands has a system that is quite similar to the US healthcare system, with private insurance and insurance subsidies for low incomes and basically privately run hospitals. The difference is that the government sorta acts like a single-payer. They set price lists for how much hospitals can charge for health care if they want to get paid by the insurance companies. And they negotiate with big pharma to purchase expensive medicines at a lower price.

Maestro,
@Maestro@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, and it's not going great. Prices are rising fast and many things aren't covered anymore, or only in expensive extra packages. Healthcare insurance works better the more people you spread it over. We should reinstate the central Ziekenfonds. It's cheaper for everyone.

beebarfbadger,

What do you mean, NOT going great? The owners of the private hospitals are raking in sooo much cash on the backs of the victims patients they get to fleece, it’s awesome! Well, for them, anyway, but that’s what counts, right?

ininewcrow, in F- me It's January!
@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca avatar

Don’t laugh … it’s a really bad day when your car/truck decides to run …but the cab heater has stopped working … on a really cold day at minus 10 to 20 degrees Celsius (+14F to -4F in American) … your windshield basically becomes a frosty block of ice that will clear up for a minute after you scrape it before it forms a new layer of frost again.

I drove around for a week continually scraping the windshield to drive around town one winter a few years because of this. And if you are unlucky, police will stop you, ticket you and tell you to tow your vehicle home.

TheGreenGolem,
@TheGreenGolem@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I usually use deicer liquid in spray form directly on the windshield. The ice becomes mushy in like 5 seconds and I just have to wipe it off. But yeah, it’s only -5 to 0 here, so maybe it’s not very effective where you are.

criticon,

That trick works in Michigan during really cold days too. Granted, you need to buy the nice stuff, I get the rain-x with de-icer (the purple one)

Naja_Kaouthia,
@Naja_Kaouthia@lemmy.world avatar

The rain-x with the de-icer is my go to here in Colorado too. The other bad winter habit that makes me furious is people not brushing the snow off the roof. I mean come on people are you actively trying to cause an accident when that shit goes flying off?

money_loo,

And if you are unlucky, police will stop you, ticket you and tell you to tow your vehicle home.

That’s actually if you’re lucky my dude.

If you’re really really unlucky then you slam your truck into a minivan full of kids on their way to school and kill them all because you decided to drive through a layer of Vaseline ice on your windshield and endanger everyone else around you.

ininewcrow,
@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca avatar

True … if you decide to head out on a busy roadway or highway … when I had the problem with my windshield, I was just moving over block to block to get to where I had to be in my neighbourhood. I do remember one friend who was coming up from Toronto in February who lost his heating midway through on his way to Timmins and he said it was absolutely scary to decide to drive on a northern highway with a windshield like that.

You’re right, it is an absolutely dangerous thing to do in the wintertime and I’d never attempt it on a major roadway if I had the choice.

DashboTreeFrog,

There’s a saying I’ve heard often, think it’s Chinese in origin, “Wealth lasts three generations”.

A friend’s explanation was the first generation makes the wealth, the second generation, seeing their parent’s hard work, maintains the wealth, but the third generation, only knowing privilege, wastes it.

But I’ve realized above a certain financial bracket this seems to not apply.

FireRetardant, in Taking for granted

I was born into a family run company. Gave them 10 years of my life. The first few years I worked really hard and got a 2-3 dollar raise. Shortly after, minimim wage went up to 50 cents below what I was making. I did not get another raise until 2-3 years down the line. Regardless who your employer is, get treated fairly or leave for somewhere that will treat you fairly.

hydrospanner,

And if you left based on that stagnant wage, I bet they gave you the guilt trip about loyalty, and how hard it is to operate a small business, as if that somehow makes it okay to underpay you.

FireRetardant,

They weren’t too bad when I left and even pitched in for some of my schooling. I still don’t feel bad taking a couple cans of soup whenever I visit though. And the work did teach me a lot of skills and a great work ethic.

It was filmed in 2001 as evident by the title but only released in the late 1960s, thats why it looks that way.
