over_clox, in found a confusing bolt cleaning my parents' garage

I’ve had to help someone tighten a bolt like this before. It was used to attach the deck assembly to the underside of a riding lawnmower.

Blizzard, in in Western Australia, they have trees that are pinned for climbing. This is filmed from the point of view climbing a 65m (215ft) tall one.

My parents had a can of tecate in their fridge dating to a 4th of July party we had in 1985... until finally around 2004, my brother's friend drank it. He didn't really have much of a comment on the quality.

wahming,

Is that because he’s dead?

squiblet,
@squiblet@kbin.social avatar

You know, not to ruin the joke, but it might have worked out better if the Tecate did kill him back then. He's currently in prison for 45 years for stabbing his wife to death.

TheaoneAndOnly27,

Well I was not expecting that reply.

squiblet,
@squiblet@kbin.social avatar

It shows how bad the judgement is of someone who would drink a 19 year old Tecate!

wahming,

Oof.

Jesus fuck that took a turn

squiblet,
@squiblet@kbin.social avatar

we weren't really expecting it either...

Dkarma,

Tecate is trash when it’s fresh. I can’t imagine one almost 20 years old

jwagner7813, in How geologists collect lava

I would be super scared that the surface I’m walking in could potentially be lava. Cool AF too watch though.

anlumo,

Never played “the floor is lava” as a child? This is a game to prepare you for that situation.

zipsglacier,

It’s hot AF!

I’d love to see more buildings like this for apartments! Scaling vertically but still getting outdoor space that isn’t roofed by the next balcony up.

burningquestion, in TIL: ferns have sperm that swims

More interesting to me is that a full fern life cycle takes two generations to play out. A diploid (two sets of each chromosome) fern throws off spores, and the spores grow into haploid (one set of each chromosome) plantlets. The haploid plantlets fertilize each other, and boom, the offsping are diploid ferns.

meyotch,

Truly interesting, isn’t it? Even cooler is that more ‘modern’ flowering plants do the same thing, but they have truncated and miniaturized the haploid phase so it is completely dependent on the diploid sporophyte.

Don’t get me started on mosses. I have to go to work!

captainlezbian,

Ok but what if we want to know more about mosses

PlasticExistence,

I would like to subscribe to your moss facts newsletter

Akasazh,

Did you know that Richard Ayoade, who played Moss in ‘the IT-crowd’ debuted on tv in ‘Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace’?

PlasticExistence,

That is technically on topic, so well done!

    outdated_belated,

    Wow, I thought for sure this was DALL-E.

    Shows, I suppose how the existence of these things cheapens what would otherwise be a sense of awe or appreciation.
