ButteredToast, in This package of bagels I bought expired on a date that doesn't exist.

Uh am I just special, because I saw February 29th 2023 immediately Isn’t a lot of things formatted in the DD/MM/YYYY type especially for expiration dates

GONADS125,

It’s just the EU date style.

I find my brain reads dates the US way first and then immediately rereads the EU way after, when that doesn’t make sense. It’s pretty automatic.

Not even tangentially related… but I replaced the dumb American (and I know UK as well) 3 fingers gesture with the German 3 when I learned of it as a teenager. It’s so much more efficient and reasonable compared to stretching our fingers out unnaturally…

Molten_Moron,

February 29th 2023 isn’t a real date

ButteredToast,

That’s the point lmfao

CeruleanRuin, in This package of bagels I bought expired on a date that doesn't exist.

Sucked. Intoooo. A baaaageeeel.

player2, in Dior has released a $230 'scented water' for babies. It's significantly more expensive than its bestselling fragrances for adults.

The exorbitant price is the whole point of luxury stores like Dior. People who shop there would stop if everything became reasonably priced. Do you really expect people of their status to live like the rest of us?!

Is that like UpDog?

ieatpillowtags,

What’s UpDog?

ForestOrca,
@ForestOrca@kbin.social avatar

No much, what up wit you?

Froyn,

Similar. It's a smaller board than scrabble and you can stack letters on top of existing.

livus,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

I would actually play that. We would need the letters to be printed on the inside of clear resin cubes so that you can still see all the letters in a stack.

Haha I respect the responsible response. Sounds fun!

I just finished reading (listening to the AudioBook of) The Truth by Terry Pratchett. This would be one of Mr. Windlings pickles.

southsamurai,

That was exactly what I was going to say, though it was a re-read for me :)

Salvo,
@Salvo@aussie.zone avatar

Same as. The new Audiobook is much higher audio quality than the earlier Audiobooks. They are all different in different ways and I find that I get more out of the original text after “reading” different narrations/adaptions.

There’s this French documentarian, Agnes Vardo, who do autobiographical, and pretty artistic and abstract documentaries. In one of them, she is meeting a group of Romani, and they teach her where the potato farmers discard all the potatoes that are not good enough for the supermarkets and she get a lot of potatoes with the shape of hearts.

Who in the hell is calling Pennsylvania the Midwest?

barfplanet,

I’m thinking the survey must have caught some tourists who were in PA at the moment.

doctorcrimson, in "Do you live in the Midwest?" by self-report

Wait, what? Where do people in Montana think they live? The south?

ZoopZeZoop,

Probably the NW. Just guessing.

BigDiction,

Are the Rockies normally considered the Midwest?

doctorcrimson,

I would consider the Rockies as their own distinct cultural and geographical region, tbh. Most of Montana that I’ve ever seen wasn’t in the mountains but that could just be a matter of perspective.

mtcerio, in Banks in Hong Kong can print their own money. There are 8 different designs in circulation.

So can banks in the UK. There is one design for England, but a few for Scotland, for example.

42% of Colorado has lost their damn mind.

neomis,

If you are east of the front range cities it pretty much is the Midwest. That makes up about 42% of the state. Seems accurate to me.

QuarterSwede,
@QuarterSwede@lemmy.world avatar

But no one in Fort Collins to Denver to CO Springs to Pueblo (almost the entire population of the state) would ever say they’re in the Midwest. Those cities basically start the West.

When I got to Ohio, I was so confused when people called it the Midwest. I was like, have you seen a map.

Maximilious,
@Maximilious@kbin.social avatar

That's because it is considered part of the Midwest?? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midwestern_United_States

runjun,

Not saying it’s inaccurate because of history but wow does it not match modern US geography.

Stovetop,

At least it has “Mid” in the name. Imagine if it was just “West” and everything west of that was the Westwest.

RupeThereItIs,

This is how I, a Michigander, feel about anyone west of the Mississippi claiming the monocer.

That river WAS the beginning of the west, how that could be Midwest is beyond me …
