The original(2021) walmart streaming box is like $20, it has custom roms for it. It has the same specs as the 4k Chromecast with androidtv. The 2023 version doesnt seem to have any roms(at least on xda), but can still be rooted.

I use my Chromecast with ATV home pro & disabled the home screen entirely. Then I used smart tube next for ad free YouTube and Plex for anything else.

What happens is some kid gets a gossip app which takes their contact data and then uses it to send this shit.

I used to get it pretty often too when I was in school.

I couldn’t find a link to the sourcecode for WireMin. I’m skeptical of closed-source “privacy” apps, and organizations that recommend them. I would think they’d know better.

Of course, WireMin could be OSS and they just failed to link to it on the web site.

skozzii, in Time to ditch #duckduckgo

On DDG I can type in an exact company or product name and not get a proper result, it’s crazy. Google seems to find the stuff no problem, it’s really quite frustrating when the search engine isn’t even capable of basic queries.

USPS sold you out. (If in the US). They literally sell “change of address” updates to marketing companies. You think they survive on selling stamps?

Catsrules,

I never updated my address and they have still found me. Personally i think it is mortgage companies.

I guess that is one good thing about renting. Your name isn’t really tied to a property at least as far as public records are concerned.

random65837, in Time to ditch #duckduckgo

The time to ditch DDG came when they started gatekeeping during the first Russia thing, COVID, etc.

This is why it’s good to be middle-aged. If anyone I know was described as my ‘friend in _____ school’ without naming them, I’d just assume it was someone I don’t remember anyway.

The fight for privacy is not new, and it predates the internet by far.

The problem is that, in the past, the state was on your side in the fight for privacy. Today, it sides with Big Tech and whoever offers it the most data to conduct its own privacy violations, or pays our elected officials the most.

It’s a bit overwhelming when giant, unchecked and unaccountable monopolies and your own country, both with almost infinite resources and legal ways to do whatever they want with impunity, gang up on you at the same time.
