Tibor betrayed us and sold the Simple Apps suite to a sleazy adtech company a while ago, there were multiple posts on this suggesting replacements, then one of the most active devs forked it into Fossify, removing all the branding and references to the original, work is still ongoing on this, already some of the apps have been rereleased, here’s a handy matrix of the progress on the rerelease from somebody on Github

Wow, I never heard of that before. Is there any replacement for simple gallery, before they screw with it?

winkerjadams,

Did you click on the link in the comment you replied to?

Honestly no, since it was talking about the SMS messenger. I’ll have a look then.

Once Nova got bought i tried Neo Launcher and it has been more than close enough for me, a year and a half later and i’m still using it

I really enjoy one called Discrete Launcher from fdroid. It’s meant to be pretty minimalistic and does not support widgets from what I can tell, but you swipe up from the bottom with one finger for AppDrower and swipe down with one finger for a favorite spar at the top. But neither are shown normally, just your wallpaper. You can also program swipe left to open an app swipe right to open an app and several other gesture actions to open things or do things

I was under the impression that two factor via SMS was disabled for free users, but you could still use OTP apps.

I have no idea if sms (ew) is an option, or if it is paid limited, but yeah I’ve had TOTP for years on my account and it’s still working fine, no financial transactions made, so…

Fucking delete it! Don’t support nazi social media.

Paying for 2FA seems to be a new low. And I’m not sure i could use any service that tried that.

I haven’t found one that I like as much. My biggest hangup, and this is probably dumb, is the ability to edit the icons for PWAs so they don’t show the stupid browser icon that screams “I’m a web shortcut!!!”. I tried Hermit as a PWA/lite app replacement and Android just slaps the hermit badge on it instead. For whatever reason that annoys me enough to stick with Nova.

Xavienth, (edited )

Could shove it in a folder and then make the tap action open the first item in the folder, then set the folder icon to whatever your want. Disadvantage is that if it’s already in a folder you can’t do that because it would require nested folders

Not a bad idea. I get picky about aesthetics though. Dumb, I know. But I’ll give it a try. Just seems silly to me that default launchers can’t manage editing the dang app shortcuts

edit: Samsungs OneUI launcher does not put the badge on a PWA. But I’m not sure I trust them any more than Nova at this point…

And…?

FriendBesto,

It means you have even less privacy than the already abysmal notion that you thought you had.

Or,

That Whatsapp users are an even bigger set of Meta’s removed. 'Cause they are just raping yet another previously unknown data point.

@RedWizard@lemmygrad.ml avatar

This isn’t new, interesting or noval information. If you run whats app from the desktop app or from web.WhatsApp.com on you’re browser on a PC then no shit they know your on your PC

Why does it matter if the people I’m chatting with know if in onnmy PC?

FriendBesto,

I see the issue. The issue is that you seemingly did not bother to read the link. Since that is not what is being discussed. It is not that you cannot tell whether someone is using a PC or a phone, but rather which PC or phone or peripheral you are using if you have number of them. Your point has literally nothing to do with the post.

“Be’ery wrote in his blog post explaining the data leak that it is a consequence of the way WhatsApp is designed: When someone sends a message to another WhatsApp user, their device creates a different session key for each device the receiver is using, thus telling the sender how many devices the receiver is using.”
