Very interesting flag. I think it'd look better with a simpler color scheme on the device and a bit more variety to the background, but it definitely has a pretty distinctive icon.

What is the symbology behind the design?

ThatOneKirbyMain2568, (edited )
@ThatOneKirbyMain2568@kbin.social avatar

Most of the symbolism is taken from the original flag. The left part is a simplified version of the Crossland banner (used by Marylanders who supported the Confederacy in the U.S. Civil War), and the right part is a simplified version of Lord Baltimore's banner (used by those who supported the Union). Together, they represent the reconciliation of Marylanders following the Civil War. Unique to this redesign, the right part also has seven stripes, symbolizing Maryland's status as the 7th state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

I think it’s excellent, really unique and striking! 10

JustZ, in Trapezoids at the hoist side is a quite rare feature on flag, existing in the shadow of many triangles. What do you think about it?

I think one vexologist said to another “we should get rid of these triangles” and the other said “just the tip.” And now we have some trapezoids.

Nice work! So much better than the existing flags, both the design and the well thought symbolism. Though Puerto Rico’s flag hardly needs changing IMO, it is already great as it is.

AchillesUltimate, in [UPDATED] My fictional flag

Pretty cool. The emblem is a little complex (but looks cool, so whatever), and the lack of geometry in the blue river is frustrating, but it’s overall cool looking.

sarmale,

Updated it a little

ThatOneKirbyMain2568, in How To ACTUALLY Design A Flag - Artifexian [5:35]
@ThatOneKirbyMain2568@kbin.social avatar

Artifexian makes a bunch of awesome content in general, though it's mainly related to conlanging and worldbuilding

rockSlayer, in Today (November 3) marks 45 years since Dominica adopted its flag. It is the only national flag using the color purple outside a coat of arms. (El Salvador and Nicaragua have purple in their CoA).

It a cool flag, but the complexity of that charge is bothering me. I feel like it could be simplified with a single green star behind a purple silhouette of the bird

just_squanch_it, in Today, October 18, is Alaska day, commemorating the transfer of Alaska from Russia to USA. This is the Alaskan state flag, voted the fifth best state/province flag in Canada and USA in 2001.
cantstopthesignal, in Today marks 17 years without the old flag of Lesotho. I still kind of miss it, and finds the new one much more boring and bland. It was also (arguably) the only national flag using brown, besides CoA

Oh look Patrick, you’ve been skewered. Heeheeheehee

gullible, in State flags of the imaginary Union of Socialist Council Republics of America

So, so many words on these flags. Somewhere out there, CGPgrey is actively sobbing. I adore Montana and Oregon, though.

WaterSword, in The Bantustans of apartheid South Africa and their flags. These "countries" were created as homelands for various black ethnic groups, with the goal to isolate blacks from South Africa proper.

is that horse for QwaQwa the same one as on the Ferrari logo?

reddithalation, in Minnesota is in the process of proposing a new state flag. Here are some proposals, circulating online. Many feature the North Star, a symbol of the state.

The current flag is ahhh, pretty bad. Like its just awful looking, and the native american racism too.

Number two or four.

Really disappointed in lack of laser beams coming from the bird eyes.

Kusimulkku, in Today marks 20 years since Georgia changed its flag! They got rid of a, IMO quite ugly, brown flag, replacing it with the much prettier red and white flag of the medieval Kingdom of Georgia.

I actually liked the older wine red flag. Something cool about it. Fairly simple too
