8565,

And they are delicious

8565,

We very much so do live in a society where you can easily engage in animal Husbandry on your own.

Almost everyone I know raises their own food and sells the excess to City Dwellers.........but, to be fair I manage a 40k bird turkey farm

8565,

Lmao no I said I manage I don't own it but, even when I owned my own house (all wealth I have is self gotten my parents are broke too) we still grew most of our food and raised a flock of birds.

I bought my first house with money I saved when I was in the Army. Then when I got my job at the farm they provided housing. Lived in my truck for almost 6 months after getting out of the Army before buying my house. Which was a POS and I slowly rebuilt it. Sorry you live in a apartment

8565,

A few years ago I was driving to my wife's parents place to let their dogs out. It was about 6pm so not dark yet but, the sun was down. I turned the corner o t a back road that went next to the river and all of a sudden it rather dark outside, and I had a really bad sense of dread like the air was heavy. Some of the worst fear I've ever had was setting in. Then suddenly on the right I saw man who was pitch black wearing a hat leaning against a sign. Half a mile later I saw him again sitting on the guardrail on the other side of the road, so I sped up and got out of there. A few hours later I was headed home and same thing happened d I turned on the road and had fear well up inside me. I came around the bend and watched a Jetta go flying off the road and the girl driving hopped out and looked at me with tears pouring down her face, usually I'd be one to stop and make sure all was ok but, with the fear I had I just wanted out of there. Then I came around the next bend and saw him standing in the middle of the other lane roughly where I'd seen him before so I just floored it and got out of there. Still get spooked thinking about it and have a lot of nightmares since where the man with a hat is chasing me while I drive

8565,

I do hate that Op used Lemmitters instead of Lemmings. It sounds bad

I feel like /c/memes has taught us a valuable lesson today: Would it make sense to develop a feature to block a comm from our feed for a selectable unit of time (1 hour, 1 day, etc.)?

Even if we’re subscribed to them? Could a temp block exist in conjunction with a subscription? I love c/memes but holy shit no matter which sort I select by they’ve managed to overwhelm my feed.

8565,

I'm at like 900 hours in Core Keeper

8565,

I've got close to 80TB between 3 locations.

What can a senior desktop support tech do who is burned out?

I am wondering what kind of career moves I have available to me because I am over the bullshit of desktop support. I have been brushing up on my Linux skills, learning docker, and doing a whole bunch of networking-related things. At this point, I am 46 years old. Would it benefit me to go back to school to learn a skill to help...

8565,

Picking something that doesn't take much prior skill is a very good way out. (Not saying you necessarily should) but, it's very easy. The Farm even provides me with housing and paid me to move so it worked out very well

8565,

If your under 39 and in decent enough shape (and US based) the Space Force is looking for recruits and has plenty of IT jobs available. When I'm ready to get back in to the service that is my plan currently

8565,

Hey just trying to offer options lol.

8565,

I left a Factory IT Admin job and honestly after factoring in my free housing only make 1k less a year than I did in IT. but, I left March 2020 and the factory didn't survive COVID. Glad I jumped that ship

8565,

Almost no stress at all. I have like 1 or two deadlines a month (load out and baby bird arrival) we have 40k birds handled between me and a part time farmhand. Everyday is as easy as walking through barns and picking up dead followed by yard work and maintenance. And once a month I run a litter machine through one of 3 finishers to keep the barns clean. Other than that it's just monitoring bird health which after you get used to it is easy. Most important thing is to keep the birds healthy, comfortable and happy

8565,

I know how getting burnt out feels. It's a rough world out there

8565,

It's from the community I grew up in (1 mile from my dad's house where I grew up) so it was posted in a community FB page

8565,

Yeah man I'm here lol weird seeing other JB guys out and about

8565,

Users are so hard. Turkeys you just have to find any way they may kill themselves and fix it before they do

8565,

And they taste worse. Farmhands are also hard to train maybe worse than users

8565,

They never were only recruiting from the air force. They were pulling out of the Army as well. But, for at least the last couple years they have been doing public recruiting as well
