AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What prevents you from going to bed early?

Nothing gets between me and the best part of the day.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What is your unpopular flim opinion

Napoleon Dynamite is garbage.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What is Something Scientific that you just don't believe in at all?

I’m probably going to get eviscerated for this, but that sexuality is purely genetic. I think that for the vast majority of people, sexuality is way more fluid than not, and much more influenced by environment than people would like to think.

I also don’t think that has any bearing on people’s right to choose.

AnalogyAddict, to bestupdates in OOP's boyfriend won't stop telling her that she smells bad

This is what real gaslighting looks like.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in Are there any apps with kind of an educational feed for mindless scrolling?

“Educational” and “mindless” are fairly mutually exclusive.

But I agree, what you want is a book.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in I want to test out how a ranked choice poll would work in the real world so I wanna make a ranked-choice poll, what questions would be good to ask here?

My go-to is always ice cream flavors. Simple enough for people to quickly make decisions, but also highly subjective.

Most other comments so far are misleading. You shouldn’t do “favorite” or “best” in forced ranking. It needs to be something that’s on a continuum and is subjective. Typically, you say “rank features in order of importance,” not “most important feature,” or “rank from most delicious to least delicious” rather than “favorite ice cream flavor.”

“Favorite” is a single data point, not a continuum. And it’s not subjective, since others don’t get an opinion on what someone else’s favorite is.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in Why in the year 2024 and with all the knowledge humans have now do people still believe in religion?

Asking a bunch of non-religious people is nothing but a circle jerk.

People believe in religion for a variety of reasons. I believe in what I believe in because I’ve had personal experiences, and because it gives me a way to be better than I am.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in Be honest: if you had the power to stop time, your morals would go out the window.

This only applies if your morals are based on nothing more than consequences, which I would argue is no moral code at all.

AnalogyAddict, to cooking in [question] for the chemistry types- making chicken soup. Why did lemon juice turn the light brown chicken stock almost white?

The citric acid in lemon juice is both a bleach and it denatures collagen and protein, which is probably the cloudiness.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What's the consensus on swearing here

Swearing is unimaginative and dull.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What is best left unfinished?

Cheesecake. Unfinished, there is more cheesecake to look forward to. Once it’s finished, there is no more cheesecake. Only sadness.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in How do I learn to detect logical fallacies in a conversation?

All news is a goldmine, you just find them easier to identify on Fox because you disagree with them, which sets off your alarm bells. It’s A LOT harder to identify fallacies that support your own biases.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in Anyone shop on Temu? What are your best finds?

I would never shop from Temu because of their ads. The rest of the reasons are just backup.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in Am I the only one who wishes North Korea would build Terminators?

You need to get off your anime and talk to some real people in person. Make at least one of them a therapist.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What made up movie title would make it hard to sell it to the public?
