Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll check it out.

Oo, I got a bonus word! I spent way too much time trying to parse synecdoche from metonym.

Apparently, synecdoche is something associated with, and metonym is a whole or a part of of. So “red hats” and “trust funds” referring to people are synecdoche and my examples were all metonyms.

I’m geeking out a bit now.

I think that pronunciation has a few too many syllables. Lol. SiNEKduhkey. Not sinokideecodechodee or whatever that was.

Oh, this is a great word. Thanks! I just went down a huge rabbit hole of synecdoche vs metonym, and I doubt I’ll forget either term soon.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What is best left unfinished?

Cheesecake. Unfinished, there is more cheesecake to look forward to. Once it’s finished, there is no more cheesecake. Only sadness.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in Is it just my circle, or has it been a challenge getting into the Christmas/holiday spirit the last couple of years?

I think many people just realized that much of what we can Christmas Spirit is just not that rewarding.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What are some generational differences between millennials and Gen Z ?

It’s a microgeneration: the Xennials. We had all the analog fun of X and developed all the cynicism of Millenials.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What is your unpopular flim opinion

Napoleon Dynamite is garbage.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What gifts are you getting for your friends and family members?

If you’re crowdsourcing gift ideas, you’re already losing. Gifts should be personal.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What companies have made your blacklist?

There were multiple. It went on a couple of years.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in What companies have made your blacklist?

It’s not hard to not buy things.

Carl’s Jr. because of that awful sexualized man campaign. Awful ad campaigns also for Dove, Axe, Jimmy John’s and Jersey Mike’s. I’m sure there are others I’m not remembering at the moment.

Burger King and Chili’s because of cavalier attitudes towards food poisoning.

McD’s, Twitter, Susan G. Komen, commercialized fundraising of any kind, and Reddit for obvious reasons.

Lots of games I won’t play and apps I won’t download because of their ads.

AnalogyAddict, to asklemmy in Be honest: if you had the power to stop time, your morals would go out the window.

This only applies if your morals are based on nothing more than consequences, which I would argue is no moral code at all.
