No it doesn’t. It’s purely a preference. There are tons of smokers who can’t stand menthols but love regular cigarettes. I even know someone who smokes menthols because he said it makes people less likely to bum cigarettes off of him.

Exactly. It’s all about money & control and it always has been. If they wanted to get people to stop smoking, they’d mandate that the tobacco companies remove all of the chemicals from cigarettes that make the nicotine a free base form to increase their addictive properties.

I down voted it because I don’t think the government should ban substances. Not cigarettes, not alcohol, not marijuana, not psychedelics, and probably not a bunch of other drugs too. The government’s job is not to play mommy and daddy for a nation of adults. Our citizens are entirely too eager to strip away their own liberty these days.

Nic Salts are the free base equivalent of cigarettes for the vaping world, but I agree that it’s a lot less harmful. The government would endorse vaping if they truly wanted to end smoking, since it has an incredibly high success rate as a smoking cessation device, like orders of magnitude higher than any other form. All of the other cessation methods (which are owned by the tobacco companies BTW), have a max success rate of about 3.5%. Vaping has a success rate of almost 70%! So yeah, their opposition to vaping makes my point even more clear.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a new law on Wednesday that aims to stop other states from prosecuting doctors and pharmacists who mail abortion pills to patients in places where the procedure is banned. California already has a law protecting doctors who provide abortions from out-of-state judgments.

That doesn’t mean he hated them. He condemned their behavior and their hypocrisy. He called them out. That is not the same as hate.

Jesus issues some scathing condemnation against the Pharisees in that entire section of the book of Matthew. His messaging is pretty consistent all throughout the New Testament. It all boils down to loving others as you would love yourself, stop being greedy, and don’t be a hypocrite. When Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment in the law he replied simply:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment’. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

So all these bible thumpers and evangelicals who constantly rant about hatred and condemnation have missed to first and second most important messages that Jesus shared.

My understanding of the Desert Storm digital camo is that it works because they were doing a lot of city fighting. Camouflage works by breaking up your silhouette against the background. Since there aren’t really any straight edges in nature, they use rounded splotches for jungle warfare. Since there are a lot of straight edges in cities, they used straight edges for the splotches. If this camo was intended for jungle use, then it was probably a lot less effective than the traditional camouflage, which is probably why it didn’t replace the organic camouflage.

Some people did have cell phones in 1985. The Brick was available in 1983, and there were car phones and trunk phones before that.

Hmm, those numbers seem optimistic as well. I’ve had doctors and veterinarians tell me that survival rates with a good outcome are closer to 4%. Often they’ll be resuscitated, but succumb to their ailments shortly after. Other times they’re revived and stay alive, but suffer severe brain damage. If they survive and don’t have brain damage, they still have bruised organs and broken ribs from the procedure itself and will need further treatment. Basically everything I’ve heard about CPR from medical practitioners make it sound like an absolute last-ditch effort that rarely works.

That’s definitely long enough to sustain brain damage and usually the upper threshold for bringing someone back. There’s no minimum time you must wait before attempting CPR though.

If their heart is not beating then you perform chest compressions. If they’re not breathing then you perform breaths for them. You never perform one or the other if their body is performing it already.

There’s some argument about the breathing part of CPR. If the event was acute and recent, like someone collapsing while standing next to you, then there’s some modern guidance that breaths aren’t necessary, since there’s enough oxygen stored in their blood already and pulmonary compression could be enough to sustain them until first responders arrive. If the event was an unknown time period, or in this case 6 minutes prior, then they probably need breaths too.

I saw the “they don’t teach that anymore!” claim Walter White made in Breaking Bad about the breaths and looked it up. There’s a lot of confusion about that proposition and the addition has probably caused more harm than good, since now a lot of people think that it’s never required, which is false.

It’s important to remember that in cases where CPR is actually needed, the person is already dead, or in the process of dying. You cannot do more harm. You must use extreme force to actually compress the heart. You will break their ribs and probably their sternum, but since they will die without assistance, broken bones are a better outcome assuming they survive without severe brain damage.

These exist all across the country! Here’s a fun fact, the street signs are all 2 feet tall in these neighborhoods so that even low-wing airplanes can make turns around corners that have signs without risk of completely destroying their plane.
