BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in Former religious lemmings, what made you quit religion or stop being a believer?

Not a lemming per se, but I stopped judging people based on the reasoning, “because God [supposedly] says so.” It takes effort, it really does, to hate things and people. It’s draining. I don’t know how so many religious people can be so focused on hatred, all the while forgetting the adage, “hate the sin, love the sinner.” You can easily cut yourself off from good experiences and relationships if you focus on staying “pure”. It’s lonely up on that pedestal.

I’ve been Christian-lite since before Trump was President but the rise of MAGA and strengthening of religious influence in politics has made me even more happy about my decision to step away from regular attendance or association with specifically religious groups. For them, righteousness trumps any amount of human suffering, and for some, suffering is a requirement of righteousness.

This posted on X? I see no “superiority” here.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to baldurs_gate_3 in Baldur's Gate 3 Stats Reveal Who the Most-Romanced Character Is and More - IGN

Wondering what the ideal romance with Shadowheart looks like. I picked her to hang out with at the first camp party but after that there was essentially no change in our relationship. Then when I finally got serious with Lae’zel she’s all, “I wish I was the reason you are so happy.” I mean, say something girl!

But 2nd playthrough, Karlach all the way.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in What is the most terryifying siren noise?

Terrifying? Maybe. Creepy AF? Absolutely.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in What's a food you forget you like? Then you eat it, and wonder why you don't buy it more often?

When I make it rather than “mashed potatoes made of bread” it’s more like “slightly moist croutons”. Breaks my heart.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in How do I stop a crush from developing further?

Didn’t hear any compelling reasons as to why an actual relationship would be bad. Having a relationship with an authority figure (teacher, doctor, therapist, etc) is taboo and often illegal, but if there’s really a connection there it should be doable to change up schedules or find new instruction so there’s no conflict anymore. Most of my crushes though have been very superficial and a few conversations dispelled the fantasy.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to baldurs_gate_3 in [SPOILER] Am I playing Baldur's Gate wrong?

Take a look at some guides for your character types. You might be doing a bit more role playing and not enough combat specing. I mean not everyone in Faerun can hold their own with a goblin or giant spider. So make sure you’re not making all the wrong choices by mistake.

Also, I got wrecked in a few battles of Act 1 as well. Anytime I fight Githyanki I’m thinking, “Well, there goes half my health potions and revive scrolls.” Don’t be afraid of save scumming and don’t be afraid to stack the deck in your favor. Long rest, drink elixirs, apply buffs, strategically place exploding barrels, and summon familiars if you expect a hard battle. And unless you’re fighting a “boss” or an enemy that has lines of dialogue don’t get concerned about pushing things off cliffs. With most you’re not permanently losing good gear.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in What are some interesting thinking skills or strategies you've picked up from programming (or anywhere else, but try to stick to programming for now)

I’m good at breaking down problems into small chunks and not getting overwhelmed by a big project. Do I have the motivation to finish these tasks? That’s a different question.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in What's a food you love, that isn't worth making from scratch?

Never made any before but broth doesn’t seem worth it unless you make a big batch, even then I don’t have the room for a big ass pot or a gallon of broth in my fridge/freezer.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in What Linux distro should I choose?

LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition).

I’m an Ubuntu user, which is built off of Debian, but as most others have said Snaps can be annoying. It also typically uses more resources than Debian (depends if you use the base version or some derivative). My next install will be LMDE (or some other Debian distro) because I prefer starting a little more barebones then getting things just how I like it. Ubuntu is more like Windows where things are nice and convenient OOTB but it’s more of a pain to dial it back. With Debian you’ll need a little extra work to get proprietary drivers installed but it’s nothing that has been done by thousands of others.

If you don’t really want to tinker with the OS and focus more on games and coding (non-OS) then Ubuntu is a safe bet.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in What is the deal with Palestine and Hamas?

Many of which are in politics.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in Other than Lemmy, what are you doing tonight?

Enjoying a birthday dinner. Well, trying to. Had a sore throat for days and all I want to do is sleep.

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to linux in But Windows 11 is so good!!11!1!

In the Windows community I’m guessing the top message would say:

BrianTheeBiscuiteer, to asklemmy in What songs do you like that are in a language which you don't speak?

Too much kpop and jpop to list, but Kent (swedish) has a lot of good songs: Stanna Hos Mig, 400 Slag
