CmdrShepard,

I know there are several similar channels so maybe I’m mixed up, but wasn’t this the one where they found out the guy was using machinery to create his projects off camera and claiming it was all done by hand?

CmdrShepard,

It’s unbelievable to see him in Slow Horses and then see him in this article photo. He’s so good at disguising himself.

Questions regarding Old-new Hard drives

Hi, I seek your help once again. I’m in the need of upgrading my storage now and I found what I consider to be a good deal via Amazon on an older gen enterprise WD drive that supposedly hasn’t been used, but I’ll let the power on hours tell me the truth. The price is about 16usd/TB and I’m wondering if this is a bad idea...

CmdrShepard,

Considering this guy is looking to slap some drives into his personal computer in order to store some movies, who gives a shit if they’re enterprise drives or not? I have numerous 6 year old ‘junk’ drives in my server that haven’t given me a single issue the entire time powered on 24/7. It’s not like he’s looking for drives to put in a Facebook datacenter.

CmdrShepard,

$18/TB is a crazy high price. I’ve bought most of all my WD drives new for <$15/TB by waiting for sales on Easystore/Element drives

I just deleted my entire library and redownloaded it.

A lot of my files were shitty 480p versions of movies from the Napster days. Now they’re all 1080p, with a few 720p exceptions (mainly tv series episodes). All in all 500 something files in total. Now just watching uTorrent slowly download them all. Hopefully my VPN keeps the eyes off of me…

CmdrShepard,

A lot of the private trackers I use specifically block its usage.

CmdrShepard,

What type of business is this, say if I was trying to find a similar one in my area?

CmdrShepard,

Are we sure it’s not a token for the James Webb Telescope?

CmdrShepard,

I followed the instructions and opted out yet I’m still seeing what my users watched along with getting emails listing the same. I’m certain none of my users are interested in this and likely skipped through the pop-up without reading/comprehending it.

CmdrShepard,

Which is still an issue. “Opting-out” means opting-out not halfway opting-in.

CmdrShepard, (edited )

Having the ability to see it versus having it pushed in your face in the app and in weekly emails are two completely separate things.

CmdrShepard, (edited )

It rips the disks 1:1 into MKV format. Honestly, you could probably leave it there and skip the long Handbrake conversion. DVDs are only around 5GB of files.

Also when installing MakeMKV be sure to Google for the free product key from the developers.

CmdrShepard,

That was my impression too but after rereading it, I wonder if it’s satire taking a dig at our insane reality in the US.

CmdrShepard,

Another one is ErsatzTV. They allow you to create your own ‘TV channels’ based on stuff in your library.

CmdrShepard,

This is hilarious because it invokes same exact feeling for me when I hear the name. It just screams “New York socialite.”

CmdrShepard, (edited )

Dude’s obviously mentally unstable and probably a pedophile. It takes a special type of person to shoehorn “child sex trafficking” and multiple references of “jerking off” into a discussion about media server software.

CmdrShepard,

This is the riskiest way of doing it because you’re exposing ports to the open internet.

issues with QbitTorrent stalled torrents

I am just getting back my sea legs, but apparently they’re pretty shaky because I can’t get my ubuntu torrent (no seriously, it is) to download. It never starts downloading and is stuck in “stalled”. I’ve tried a number of things, but even with default settings it isn’t starting. I’m using proton VPN on Linux Mint,...

CmdrShepard,

In the bottom center of the Qbit app does the icon show as red, yellow, or green? This displays whether you are connectable or not. I’d bet it’s a port issue. If Proton offers port forwarding, find the port they assigned you and input it into the “incoming connections” port in the Qbit settings.

CmdrShepard,

Honestly the best and easiest solution is to just download them from the internet. You can queue up your entire collection using radarr/sonarr and then come back to a bunch of sorted and renamed files ready to watch on your media server.

CmdrShepard,

I think “take away” is valid too. “To take away” just sounds odd.

CmdrShepard,

I used to really enjoy the Discover Weekly lists but for the past few years it just pushes what sounds like AI generated music. It’s like a bunch of covers of popular music done by people I’ve never even heard of (who probably cost Spotify less $ per play). I’ve had better luck with stuff like Spot-a-like recommending new/similar music that I actually might like.

CmdrShepard,

Spotify has bought out some podcasts and injected their own ads into them. You can tell which ones these are because the “now playing” bar switches from the podcast to the title of the ad. I find I’m unable to skip these in my car with my infotainment controls too which has lead to me unsubscribing from some of them.

CmdrShepard,

Why is it that every comment has an eerily relevant username?

What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Other than your carrier give it for free or cheap, I don’t really see the reason why should you buy new phone. I’ve been using Redmi Note 9 for past 3 years and recently got my had on Poco F5. I don’t see the point of my ‘upgrade’. I sold it and come back to my Note 9. Gaming? Most of them are p2w or microtransaction...

CmdrShepard,

Your iPhone is the same and requires you to take it to a service center and pay someone else to do something that we’d been doing ourselves in 5 seconds for the previous 30 years.

CmdrShepard,

You ever been tested for ADHD? This could be a symptom of that.
