There was a questionable article written with that number not long ago. It’s completely bullshit though.
I’ll use my own experience as an example: I got approved for a mortgage of 125k (which is fairly low for my area, but there are still options) with the understanding that I’d be getting a house with a few issues that I can work on. My 30 year mortgage rate if I had managed to buy a house at that time would have been around 700 a month. If you double those numbers to 250k, 1400 a month and you earn 4x that amount your annual salary needs to be just under 70k.
Just for reference, there are a significant number of homes for sale for 250k or less, and I live in one of the top 10 most populated cities in the country.
At the start of 2023 there wasn’t one for me. I was in a rut and generally felt that if I didn’t spend the money on myself, my SO would. About 6 months later I had one entire paycheck vanish midway through the week from excessive takeout purchases (150+ daily) and quickly set a budget. We each get about 200 a week for ‘allowance’ to do with as we please, about another 200 for food for both of us, and the rest was going into aavings/toward bills, but then in November I realized just how little the principle on the credit card we haven’t used in two years was being paid with auto-pay and diverted the savings money towards that.
Currently, I’ve knocked down the CC by a third, plan to get it under control by march of work keeps up, then going back into savings and continuing with the basic plan.
Macaroons. I have made them from scratch. I can appreciate the sophisticated sublime expression of culinary caution it takes to split egg white, whip them until hard peaks, and then gently and precisely fold in the other ingredients to get the flavor you are after… But holy hell is it tedious with lots of potential for failure most of the way.
Alternatively, making cinnamon rolls from scratch. Not because it’s hard, just because it takes too long. I believe the recipe I was using allowed the dough to rise three separate times. Simple enough to make, but planning ahead for them to be breakfast is a 16:00 the previous day commitment.
He was interviewed/was the topic of a Darknet Dairies Podcast. It’s his side of the story as well as some of the facts around the case. Don’t know how accurate it is, but it is interesting all the same.
Commanders quarters. Started as an interesting budget build magic the gathering commander deck channel and in less than a year went from that to click bait, 7 videos a day between 10-15 minutes about spoiled cards from whatever the new set coming out is. It absolutely flooded my feed and was completely worthless.
There was also some drama about the lead guys opinions about other IPs getting cards (the walking dead being the first) and how it was the end times for that particular flavor of inked up cardboard.
For a long while mobile games were either beyond simple (like snake on the old indesctructible Nokia) or we’re pay to win money extractor gachas. It’s relatively new territory for games on phones to be anything other than those. There have almost always been exceptions of course, but finding them has not been simple. This is the first I’m hearing of the two you mentioned.
