CosmicTurtle,

You have to set up a proxy.

Even for those who are technical enough to set up a pihole, it’s annoying to set up a proxy and some apps simply won’t work with it.

CosmicTurtle,

Yup. I used ansible for a good year, maybe two, and found myself asking, “Why the fuck am I maintaining some abstract thing when I can just write a shell script and deploy that?”

Cloud orchestration is better done with other tooling. Honestly don’t see a use case for ansible beyond physical data center deployments.

CosmicTurtle,

What’s why you always smoke ribs. If you have the space, a nice long charcoal smoke for 12 hours for the full billionaire. If you don’t have the space, then 4-6 hours for just the ribs.

CosmicTurtle,

That may work short term

That’s all that matters. The next quarter’s growth is more important than the year-end P/L sheets.

Self-hosted or personal email solutions?

I have a unique name, think John Doe, and I’m hoping to create a unique and “professional” looking email account like johndoe@gmail.com or john@doe.com. Since my name is common, all reasonable permutations are taken. I was considering purchasing a domain with something unique, then making personal family email accounts for...

CosmicTurtle,

More and more services are REQUIRING a gmail/outlook/etc. account simply because bots/scammers bombard their services. It’s their cheap captcha.

I’m seeing it more and more and it infuriates me to no end.

CosmicTurtle,

The color palette of fortune 100 companies seem to be, in order of frequency: Blue, Red, and White (not counting negative space).

I think that there was some study that found that these colors are the most impactful or some shit.

CosmicTurtle,

Ngl, I absolutely love rigid. Most have lifetime guarantees, even on batteries.

Never had to exercise them fortunately.

CosmicTurtle,

I figured the “I” was referring to the author. Like “I Hiked Mt. Everest: An introduction on how to be a pretentious knob”

CosmicTurtle,

Wouldn’t that be “I Did Do IT”?

A better title would be “I’m Not a Waiter: An Introduction to Servers and Networking”

CosmicTurtle,

Ngl, love the misdirect of using lemmynsfw.com url.

CosmicTurtle,

Are you sure the hardware is still there? I only ask because given the number of hackers out there, I’m surprised someone hasn’t come out with a patch or something to make it more ubiquitous.

CosmicTurtle,

I work for a Fortune 500 company and I can tell you the reason why excel (and Google sheets) are used inappropriately is because cyber data controls make creating and maintaining a database very hard. Not only that but the skills required to know how to make a table in a spreadsheet is nowhere near the skills required to deploy, maintain, and provision a database table.

Spreadsheets don’t require a UI to be built. People don’t have to learn a new app just to be able to see data.

I’m an IT guy too and I’m the first to tell you that spreadsheets suck. But when it takes an act of a board to create new tables in a database, I tell ya…might as well just use spreadsheets.

CosmicTurtle,

Depends but usually because the road itself is not wide enough or you don’t want to impede traffic.

The last time I did this it was on a road with culverts on either side so the safest way to U Turn was in someone’s driveway.

CosmicTurtle,

Yahoo news is notorious for this. It’s like an ad after every paragraph and every paragraph is just one sentence.

CosmicTurtle,

I’m trying to remember and too lazy to rewatch or look it up.

Didn’t Neelix make a coffee substitute that was as good? It was when they were trying to save on replicator rations.

CosmicTurtle,

Ah I think you’re right. I think she says that at the prison colony, that he’ll be free to do whatever he wants in exchange for guiding them through the badlands.

CosmicTurtle,

But didn’t she recruit Tom Paris? Or did she just “restore” his rank of Lt? If she had the authority to restore a criminal’s rank, surely she would have had the authority to recruit, either way.

CosmicTurtle,

This show has easter eggs on top of Easter eggs. Jeffery Colms, one of the most prolific guest stars who has played a ton of different characters, being the AI robot that wants to take over planets and then a few episodes later, Rutherford saying that Nick Locarno looks like Tom Paris.

I have Lemmy to thank for helping me find this show.

CosmicTurtle,

Yeah…assuming that the policy was written “from blood” (meaning someone did something stupid).

But even then you can put other checks and balances in place to make sure that kind of thing doesn’t happen.

This is such an extreme reaction though. Or the policy was made from someone dumb

CosmicTurtle,

I miss the days where almost every credit card company had one that was connected to your account.

Discover had one. So did Citi…but now, it seems like it’s only Capital One.

CosmicTurtle,

How the hell are you going to make that statement and not even provide a link?!

CosmicTurtle,

Maybe do both? Capture the chemicals with the filters And then send the filters to a plant to be broken down.

CosmicTurtle,

I often go to customer service and ask them to check me out. When they point to the self checkout, I tell them I prefer a human.

Never had any issues except one time I was at Lowe’s and the woman just wouldn’t do it. I had to tell her either check me out or agree that whatever I ring up is accurate.

She called a manager over it, who then checked me out.

I’m still bitter about it.
