DdCno1, to news in ‘It’s difficult to survive’: China’s LGBTQ+ advocates face jail and forced confession

I wouldn’t call it freedom. If she’s treated like other “security threats” within China, then she does not have freedom to travel. She’s likely limited to her city at most, perhaps even just a small area within and has to regularly report to local police. Think of it like probation for people convicted of actual crimes in the West, except without court order, for an unlimited amount of time and with the constant threat of being tortured/disappeared looming over her head. If Xi ever feels like tightening the thumb screws on the Chinese people even further, she’d probably feel the effects before many others. All of this comes with social consequences, as many friends and business partners will be scared away.

DdCno1, to news in Biden "running out" of patience with Bibi as Gaza war hits 100 days

To touch on one point mentioned in the article, I think the release of the tax revenue should come with clear conditions. The PA has a massive martyr’s fund that they are using to pay out the relatives of those killed, injured or imprisoned in the conflict, primarily terrorists. They are paying out hundreds of millions each year:

en.wikipedia.org/…/Palestinian_Authority_Martyrs_…

The withheld amount is much smaller than this fund. It would make no sense to allow this to continue, since the very same PA that wants to administer Gaza after this war is over is also heavily financially supporting and incentivizing continued violence.

DdCno1, to news in Namibia rejects Germany’s Support of the Genocidal Intent of the Racist Israeli State against Innocent Civilians in Gaza

Germany already agreed to paying over a billion in 2021:

theguardian.com/…/germany-agrees-to-pay-namibia-1…

I wouldn’t be surprised if this nonsense from the Namibian government will achieve absolutely nothing, except for driving the two countries apart again and setting back reconciliation by a considerable amount. Namibia doesn’t have anything to bargain with, which means they need the goodwill of Germany if they want more money - which they won’t get by being mock outraged over core German foreign policy principles.

Outright hate speech as well, with plenty of upvotes.

DdCno1, (edited ) to news in Satellite images show China made an apparent USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier target out in the desert

They desperately want to stage their own Pearl Harbor, don’t they? I doubt it’ll go any better for them.

The only thing that’s threatened by US military bases are their imperial ambitions in the region. There’s a reason why even Vietnam is seeking US protection. You know that the US isn’t going to attack China first.

DdCno1, to news in China's Xi says reunification with Taiwan is 'inevitable' in New Year's address

The arrangement with Taiwan is different though. A war between the two Chinas would see direct US involvement, not just the sending over of old weapons that are well past their expiration date.

DdCno1, to news in China's Xi says reunification with Taiwan is 'inevitable' in New Year's address

Especially in China. That’s a place where it’s not uncommon for very high ranking members of the government/party/major companies and public figures disappearing for months on time if not indefinitely. If it can happen to those people, it can happen to bearers of bad news much further down the line. Not to mention, Xi has been busy purging anyone who even looks remotely competent/threatening (same thing, really) for a while now in the very old-fashioned sense of the word, which isn’t exactly conductive to a smooth running state either.

DdCno1, to news in China's Xi says reunification with Taiwan is 'inevitable' in New Year's address

People were saying the same about Russia before he invaded Ukraine. The moment we see a buildup of troops at the coast near Taiwan, the countdown to the invasion is ticking down. I do not think it’s a matter of if, but when. Could be this year already. I do not believe that the so-called PLA is even remotely capable of successfully conquering Taiwan, since they have zero experience with any kind of complex military operation (least of which any combined arms and naval landings, let alone the most challenging one in military history), but I think the end result will still be an enormous amount of destruction and suffering, as well as a major and long-lasting economic crisis.

DdCno1, to news in China's Xi says reunification with Taiwan is 'inevitable' in New Year's address

China is stumbling towards an invasion the same way they stumbled their way into and through COVID. The consequences of this dangerous ineptness will be similar for the world.

    health officials said Friday.

Hamas health officials. How I hate the lazy reporting on this conflict.

DdCno1, to news in Gaza war's staggering toll reaches a grim milestone: 20,000 dead

According to the modlog, posts that are not negative towards Israel have been removed. There is definitely censorship here.

DdCno1, to news in The UN says more than 1 in 4 people in Gaza are starving because of war

if you yourself have to begin an answer to these questions with “I honestly don’t know,”

I think we should all do that, including you.

because even the civilians “have been taught from the crib to kill all Jews,”

I didn’t make that part up:

    unwatch.org/un-teachers-call-to-murder-jews-revea…

Seriously read this, including the full report. It explains so much about this conflict.

perhaps you can understand how some of us would conclude that Israel might not care very much about Palestinian civilians

They care less about Palestinian civilians than they do about their own soldiers, but they care enough about them to invest massive amounts of resources into warning them, into getting aid to them and into getting them out of the parts of the strip that are most dangerous to them. That’s more than can be said about anyone else in this conflict. Is it perfect? Hell no, but nothing in this world is and nobody in their right mind would expect them to be perfect.

based on the sheer number of them they’ve killed to this point

We don’t even know how many have died. Seriously, we have zero clue, only made-up numbers from Hamas - who also don’t differentiate between civilian and military deaths, by the way - and rough estimates from everyone else. All we know for certain is that thousands have died. That’s it. It took Israel weeks to come up with the total death toll on their side after the October 7 massacres and that’s in a much more controlled environment, yet everyone immediately accepts whatever the “Gaza Health Ministry” under full Hamas control pumps out. I’ve lost count of how many have sent me articles from BBC, Reuters, NYT and whoever saying that they reported on the numbers and I should take them seriously and yet every single time, these articles cite the same Hamas organization or someone who cites them.

Again, this is a terrible war and thousands have dying in it, but it’s not just a war of bullets and bombs, but also one of information being used a weapon, including misinformation, like completely nonsensical comparisons that I debunked earlier. So many educated, well-meaning people appear to lose all sight of reason, anything resembling critical thinking skills in this and for what? Do any of these people really think that it actually helps Palestinians?
