Gentle reminder to everyone that support for ends in about 90 weeks. Many computers can't upgrade to Win 11 so here are your options:

  1. Continue on Win 10 but with higher security risks.
  2. Buy new and expensive hardware that supports Win11.
  3. Try a beginner friendly distro like . It only takes about two months to acclimate.

EddoWagt,

Conveniently, everybody interpreted as such

EddoWagt,

It came from the fence, looks like mail to me. Sorry to ruin the illusion

EddoWagt,

Are these a fork from the simple apps?

EddoWagt,

I guess you’d need acrylic or glass panels, but that wouldn’t feel or act like a regular wall. I think your biggest problem would be power consumption. You’ll probably be surprised how much power those LEDs can consume, especially on high brightness

EddoWagt,

Now I’m wondering, with which fingers would you press all those buttons? The most comfortable way to press these keys with 1 hand is to rotate the keyboard 180 degrees

EddoWagt,

To understand recursion you first need to understand recursion you first need to understand recursion you first need to understand recursion you first need to understand recursion you first need to understand recursion you first need to understand recursion

EddoWagt,

I don’t even know how.

Do you perhaps have a stone tile floor?

What would be the best way for me to recover data from my old laptop's hard drive, which seems to have a bad superblock?

I got an external hard drive enclosure for the purpose of recovering some of the files from my old laptops hard drive. The hard drive and all of it’s partitions show up in both disks and gparted but it wont mount. When I tried to mount it manually, it gave the error message stating that it can’t read the superblock. I’ve...

EddoWagt,

I have had great results with testdisk. At one point my dad’s external hard drive was so messed up that a local IT company couldn’t fix it. Mind you all our family and vacation pictures where on there, so it was kind of important. I think it took me a couple of hours, but with testdisk I was able to recover everything

How many of you run a Linux phone (Pine64, Librem etc) as your daily driver?

I was going through Pine64’s page again after I found the latest KDE announcement. With that said, I seem to see a lot of issues with firmware on the Pine, whilst the Librem is just plain out of budget for me. Was interested in how many people here run a Linux mobile as a daily driver, and how has your experience been?...

EddoWagt,

It would be awesome if we could just install whatever like we can on pcs. On phones you still need a developer to make a specific rom for that device, we were close with Generic System Images (GSIs), but I don’t think they really went anywhere

EddoWagt,

Graphene OS isn’t anymore Linux than any other Android rom

EddoWagt,

It’s a feature that no one wants and is annoying and badly thought out but you can turn it off but they haven’t disabled any functionality to add this feature

So it’s just more unnecessary bloat

Why didn't anyone remind me the dual booting exists?

I was talking to my dad yesterday and he talked about how he dual booted windows and Linux in his college days. I immediately left to download Ubuntu, I feel so dumb for forgetting it’s an option. I literally only use windows so I can play Fortnite with friends. PSA: you can have both Linux and Windows, or you can use a vm in...

EddoWagt,

Partitioning is great with a boot partition for each OS

Until Windows eats your Linux boot partition. I’ve learned my lesson, I only dual boot with separate drives now

EddoWagt,

A couple of years ago, don’t know exactly, but maybe 2018? Somewhere around there at least

EddoWagt,

Proper CAD software :(

EddoWagt,

CAD, AutoCAD is just a CAD program

EddoWagt,

Ah nevermind, yeah at home/work I use SolidWorks and Fusion 360

Next smartphone I buy, which one do you recommend?

Things that make me angry about my current smartphone Samsung Galaxy S21Ultra on a Verizon plan is the mandatory software updates in which they install WITHOUT MY PERMISSION stupid apps like Netflix and addictive gambling games and stacking block games and Candy crush. God knows what else they install without my permission. I...

EddoWagt,

It is google Android but they do not pay for the name so they call it ‘FairphoneOS’.

That’s not how that works, they call it FairphoneOS because they added their own customizations. Default Android is pretty barebones nowadays so nobody uses that. You dont have to pay Google to use the Android name

EddoWagt,

Talk about ableism and lack of self awareness… Some of the most evil heartless shit I’ve ever read…

I guess you know their family and situation better than they do themselves

EddoWagt,

In the end I just split my SSD and installed Linux next to Windows.

That’s all fun and all until windows decides to wipe your Linux bootloader for no apparent reason

EddoWagt,

It’s fat and slow

With modern hardware neither of those really are an issue. You can get a 1 TB nvme ssd for €50 and 2 TB for less than a 100. That should lend you plenty of storage and speed

EddoWagt,

Alice in borderlands was pretty good, although the conclusion of season 2 didn’t feel satisfactory and the teaser for season 3 in that last episode was even worse imo

EddoWagt,

If Reddit goes through with their threat of removing their links from Google

Why the hell would they do that?

EddoWagt,

Same, I had to login to steam by solving one of these and I just couldn’t… Not sure why it’s so difficult all of a sudden
