if you’re switching between formats yeah it’s going to need to start over on the transcoding. If you don’t it’s actually better because it just caches it on disk. From that point it’s basically native.

Jellyfin does support limiting external network speeds, and individual client speeds, so if you setup your transcoding correctly, and the clients support those codecs, it’ll work.

you only really need to pre-code one file. Especially with a network that limited lol.

have a look into jellyfin. There’s a lot of precursors involved, im assuming you’re familiar, or will at least look into them if you decide on it though. As for your bitrate problem, there are two solutions, have the end user download it and replay it locally (jellyfin integrates this natively) or use hardware transcoding, (software on cpu, but you should use quick sync or nvenc, or something like that instead) IME modern intel cpus support what you’re looking for on QSV i’m running 12th gen. you can set external connections to a limited speed that JF clients will automatically configure.

For me personally i’ve been running jellyfin for a few years, it’s great. Couple of minor problems, but it’s fine.

intrigued by the fact that this is hated so much. It’s a courteous ask, and something you probably should be doing. Especially if you can just copy and paste the majority of it.

I try to do it when possible.

archive.org actually has quite a decent clearweb variety. The usual suspects have everything else.

yeah, it’s a fair observation, i just felt the need to mention that for some reason. Often times weird things have fairly simple explanations.

that’s why its a running joke…

i dont like my given birth name, i could legally change if it i please. In fact i don’t like the concept of legal names much at all, but thats a different story.

Lets throw in some similar cases here. Ear lobes, why not just chop those off at birth? They dangle around weirdly and are places to put jewelry. Which can cause injury.

Ever heard of scarification? It’s like a tattoo, but subtractive instead of additive.

You ever heard of penile subincision? You just yeet a massive slit into the bottom of the penis, that leads into the urethra.

Why not just do those things to children upon birth?

last i checked according to the ole reliable wikipedia, circumcision is still pretty big in other parts of the world, notably africa iirc.

Society is weird.

“the human form looks better in a certain color”

yes i realize this isn’t inherently racist, im making a joke to point out how silly this is

the running joke is that arch users are either femboys or trans.

You know the joke about computer nerds being neckbeards? Same idea.

that is bizarre. My MSI board has been pretty much perfect with sleep, never tried hibernation though.

this also doesnt change the fact that if we called football football and football football we would be confusing football with football, and football with football, instead of having two succinct names that are clearly identifiable.

And even then most words don’t make very much sense. It’s just english.

KillingTimeItself, to memes in I think we've been had

i think the technicality here is that soccer spread to the US initially. And then it transitioned to football, but by that time US football had been established properly, so we just kind of decided to keep using soccer, because it made the most sense. And besides the entire reason the EU transitioned to football, was kind of just irrelevant for the US anyway.

It’s one of those things where you get stuffed into a bit of an awkward spot. And so you do the best you can. And then everyone still yells at you for some reason. Like yes football already existed, and yes it probably should’ve just been football. But this is also the US and europe that we’re talking about, historically known to be good friends, throughout history. Of course.

yeah, pretty much.
