The “we” would be everyone who is not the “37 per cent of urban areas globally, and just 52 per cent of the urban population, [who] have convenient access to public transport.”
In Switzerland, minimum frequency standards for public transport are enshrined in law – meaning each citizen can expect regular provision of bus and train services, even in rural areas. It is administrated at local level, with each of the country’s ‘cantons’ setting out a framework for delivery.
In the Zurich canton, for instance, which is roughly comparable with South Yorkshire, England, and includes both urban and rural areas, villages of 300 people or more are guaranteed a bus service at least every hour. In the Bern canton, which is less densely populated than Devon, small villages get at least four and up to 15 return bus services each day.
In both places, schedules are aligned with railway timetables to ensure citizens can travel short or long distances with ease. Accessibility for disabled passengers is also a legal requirement.
A data cloud backup loss should be fine, because it’s a backup. Just re-up your local backup to a new cloud/second physical location, that’s the whole point of two.
I don’t see a need to run two conccurent cloud backups.
Yeah absolutely, but tonyou as an individual , it’s the same net effect of your cloud backup is lost. Just re-up your local backup to a different cloud provider.
Elected officials should be forced to go to their workplace several times a week by bike, this could greatly accelerate the improvement of roads for alternative means of transport. Do you agree ?
I agree. My point is making cars, generally, not allowed for public servants.
It’s a good pilot project to ensure transit is functional in an area, and public servants have a relatively stronger influence to improve things that will improve transit directly or indirectly.
By having public servants on public transit, you can almost force and alignment of their personal commute requirements, and the health of a city’s transit.
I want to get back into reading, so I’m thinking of getting a Paperwhite. But I have no idea if it’s possible to transfer files to it from a computer, and I have no experience with pirating books....
That seems very odd to me. I’ve never been to a city library that can’t get something they don’t have. Obviously I’m biased by my own experiences.
I’m in Montréal (2-4M depending on how the library system is set up) and star wars has 1,099 hits. Video games, mangas, movies, tv shows, books illustrations, audiobooks, lego building guide ebooks, comics, etc. There might be some inflation in the figure for how some titles handle multi-lingual copies.
Karen Traviss is my favorite star wars author, followed by Timothy Zhan.
Jellyfin on the firestick. Remove internet access from the stick (LAN only).
Alternatively, DNS block amazon communications (Pihole, adguardhome, etc).
Edit: you can also install adguard, or other ad blockers directly onto your firestick.
Edit 2: there are also a number of ad preferences burried deep in the settings. My fireTV has no adblocker, but only displays static banner ads on the homepage.
For me personally, trams are right up there. Aside from the main issue of sharing the roads instead of having a dedicated line, they really make it easy to get from one part of a city to another, especially for wheelchair users. They’re usually as frequent as buses, but much faster. The stations are much more attractive...
Sure it’s got the pop up logo triangle, but the front is still overall better.
Great viability, check out that dome. The design choices naturally focus the server outside the car rather than on instruments.
Back seats also have a big dome to look out and realise there is a world outside the car, it’s not just an iPad screen to fast-travel. Again, the focus is on what’s outside the vehicle, not in it.
On screens, there in not a single screen in that car.
Low-loading height, height clearance, deep truck. Probably more on par with a van than an SUV.
Low laying headlamps with standard incandescent bulbs, nothing that can temporarily blind people.
Sure it has rear-view viability issues, and the horn (and multitude of horn buttons) is problematic. But the Homer Simpson car is a good people and stuff mover. Could probably do without the shag carpeting though.
