OsrsNeedsF2P,

A long time ago, @Dessalines made Jerboa as an Android Native client for Lemmy as an alternative to Boost for Reddit. How happy are you that the OG Boost developer came and made a Lemmy client?

OsrsNeedsF2P, (edited )

Any words for Zuck and Threads?

Edit: on a more serious note, has Meta reached out to the Lemmy developers at all?

OsrsNeedsF2P, (edited )

So many apps die before getting any users. For Lemmy however, when was the first time you really thought “Damn, this thing really might actually take off”?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Has Lemmy.ml been contacted by law enforcement yet to hand over user data? If yes, when was it, and what did you hand over?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

What’s coming in the Lemmy 0.20 release?

OsrsNeedsF2P, (edited )

It also doesn’t have historical data on i.e. how much NLNet contributed (which iirc, was a lot*)

*(a lot in terms of donations - Lemmy devs are living below poverty line. Please donate)

OsrsNeedsF2P,

What other ideas do you have to increasing funding for Lemmy development?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Something tells me you’re gonna be pasting this a lot 😄

OsrsNeedsF2P,

First, I want to say thank you for the incredible job you already have done in this area. However, do you have any thoughts on further improving some fundamental Lemmy UX painpoints? Examples such as:

  • Migrating accounts between instances
  • Tagging users across instances
  • Linking communities across instances
  • Finding communities across instances
OsrsNeedsF2P,

Not a question, just wanted to let you know I how much we appreciate and love you all for making Lemmy happen 🥰🥰

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Super excited! Will you be answering all questions, including hard ones?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Regarding funding - Can you give a detailed breakdown of what you’ve gotten per year and from which sources since you started Lemmy?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I’ve seen projects shed significant numbers of contributors by moving off GitHub. RIP

OsrsNeedsF2P, (edited )

What are some cool “Lemmy Adjacent” projects you know of and want to share? (Things like LemmySchedule or Toast.ooo’s Canvas)

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Nutomic said in another comment:

Yes once we reach 1.0 there will be way fewer breaking changes and then it will be easier to do more frequent releases.

So maybe that?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Regarding server architecture - How many users can the Lemmy network, or the fediverse as a total scale to, assuming the average person posts once per day and reads ~50 comments/posts a day?

OsrsNeedsF2P, (edited )

How do you feel about extreme right-wing instances like the late Wolfballs using Lemmy to promote and spread hate?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Back when the first Reddit exodus happened, there was a group heavily DDOSing many of the popular Lemmy instances. While it was a great opportunity to optimize Lemmy, did you ever find out who that attacker was?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Wait until you find out how distro packaging works

Gentle reminder to everyone that support for ends in about 90 weeks. Many computers can't upgrade to Win 11 so here are your options:

  1. Continue on Win 10 but with higher security risks.
  2. Buy new and expensive hardware that supports Win11.
  3. Try a beginner friendly distro like . It only takes about two months to acclimate.

Can’t modern Linux run on 23 year old computers? What are you running a 23 year old stack for?

I was trying to make a Windows XP compatible app last month and my god is it ever difficult. Nothing works on XP anymore, so it’s insanely hard to test/develop software. All the legacy download links are dead too, so you can’t go install older versions of things either.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Fun fact- Dinnerbone, from Minecraft, works on this for free!

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Lazarus’ Operation DreamJob, also known as Nukesped, is an ongoing operation targeting people who work in software or DeFi platforms with fake job offers on LinkedIn or other social media and communication platforms.

Looks like they’re going after desperate job seeking crypto bros. Even if it’s not terribly effective, it’s a spray and pray, so they probably got some people.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

People need to understand Gnome’s goal is to bring simple Linux machines to the masses. I’m not even talking about your grandma or neighbour Joe, they spend a lot of time going after the 1.2B people in Africa and 400M people in South America. There’s a reason they only have one calculator named “Calculator” and not 2-3 like KDE has with “Kalk” or “Kcalc”. There’s a reason they created stopthemingmy.app.

Lots of power-users still love Gnome, some because it they came from MacOS (which Gnome is still vastly more customizable than), and some because the terminal gives all the power they need on Linux. For people who don’t like Gnome, you can still appreciate the sheer amount of resources they spend upstreaming work and keeping a fully FOSS GUI toolkit, something KDE never had the resources to do.

So yea, it’s frustrating see people hate on Gnome when they don’t even realize they’re not the target audience. (I know you’re not hating on Gnome, but wanted to vent that out a bit)

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I’m actually getting this too. Worked fine on Brave
