QuaternionsRock,

Not if 50% of the gut bacteria of the people who got snapped just like fell to the ground, or got stuck to that dusty shit.

QuaternionsRock,

I mean, does it erase 50% of all life, or just roughly 50%?

QuaternionsRock,

I mean, the MATLAB wojak has a dent in its skull, which feels pretty accurate. There is a ton of complex, niche, and (for those within the niche) incredibly useful software in the various Toolboxes, all developed with those fat stacks of MATLAB money. But it’s all piloted with the MATLAB language, which is just one of the worst things ever for oh so very many reasons.

And it’s wildly expensive.

QuaternionsRock,

Why do people hate snap over flatpak? I feel like I’ve read a thread or two about it, but I haven’t seen an answer that was particularly satisfying (almost definitely for a lack of trying on my part, to be clear).

QuaternionsRock,

Proprietary on the server/distribution end

Zoinks!

QuaternionsRock,

You can’t use one unfused half-bone in place of one full bone >:(

QuaternionsRock,

Quantum “teleportation” is not capable of sending information FTL. Quantum entanglement means that the wave functions of two or more particles (in essence, the information possessed by the particles) are correlated, but the information must be encoded by a device at the midpoint between the two observers and sent to the observers at a speed not exceeding the speed of light.

QuaternionsRock,

Can Cygwin run Linux GUI programs effectively? What about GPU-bound workloads? Would happily switch if the answer to both of those is yes.

QuaternionsRock,

Wouldn’t bare metal be the best for that?

Technically yes, but WSL2 is remarkably close to optimal in terms of throughput. Unlike WSL1 (a type 2 hypervisor), WSL2 requires Hyper-V (a type 1 hypervisor), meaning Windows also runs as a VM once it’s enabled. The Linux vGPU driver still needs to go through the Windows Nvidia driver as far as I know, but that is seldom the bottleneck for CUDA applications.

QuaternionsRock,

I don’t see anyone simping for corporations

Did you respond to the wrong comment by any chance?

QuaternionsRock,

it’s a learning machine

Should probably use a more careful choice of words if you want to get hung up on semantic arguments

QuaternionsRock,

No, seriously: all they are good for is making things sound fancy.

This is the part of your comment is reductive. The first part just explains how LLMs work, albeit sarcastically.

QuaternionsRock, (edited )

Well, no one in a 90s-era sitcom has used the phrase in decades either ;P

QuaternionsRock,

They’re saying that things you typically do after waking up tend to be louder than things you do before going to sleep.

QuaternionsRock,

I haven’t heard this before, what are they?

QuaternionsRock,

That last point is somewhat amusing considering you have to go out of your way to make your program case-insensitive.

QuaternionsRock,

There’s a lot of strange answers here.

  1. AdGuard extensions for Safari successfully block all YouTube ads, although in my experience you have to keep reloading the page.
  2. I also use uYouPlus, but you have to remember to connect it to your computer once a week, which blows.
QuaternionsRock,

Is leaded gas still a requirement, or have they found a way around that by now for old prop planes?
