Scrollone,

I don’t know about your country, but in mine the download and upload of home connections are both unlimited

Scrollone,

$50??? The Zero model costs like 15 dollars

Scrollone,

Some things are literally not available anymore by legal means. Piracy is an important tool in preserving content for future generations. Future historian will be proud of pirates.

Scrollone,

I agree. These stats are to be taken with a grain of salt.

Personally, I saw an extreme increase among my peers in piracy, streaming and Plex servers.

How does Usenet content not immediately get DMCA'd into oblivion?

For instance, say I search for “The Dark Knight” on my Usenet indexer. It returns to me a list of uploads and where to get them via my Usenet provider. I can then download them, stitch them together, and verify that it is, indeed, The Dark Knight. All of this costs only a few dollars a month for me....

Scrollone,

Please note that, unlike private trackers, indexers are usually a paid service.

Nzbgeek, althub, ninjacentral, drunkenslug just to name a few.

Scrollone,

You can always setup a nice Plex server and give them all the movies they want.

It’s not like you can’t unsubscribe from Netflix

Scrollone,

Personally I bought a used office PC (with 8 GB of RAM and Intel i5 6th generation) on eBay for less than 100 €. It works really great!

Scrollone,

It’s not like that in every country. For example, speed cameras in Italy can’t be placed in 30 km/h zones

Scrollone,

Wow! That’s great. How much did you spend for so much space?

I’m here crying with my 2 TB archive

Scrollone,

The desync issue is probably caused by different frame rates. For example, an American movie is 60 FPS, while a Greek one is 50 FPS. That leads to a slow desyncining of the audio throughout the video.

If you know about this problem, then I think it’s quite easy to fix while merging the two files.

Scrollone,

Too bad the mouse is now in the public domain :)

Scrollone,

If it’s rare content, it would be nice if you uploaded it to the Internet Archive

Scrollone,

You don’t even need a VPN if you live in a country that doesn’t care

Scrollone,

I don’t understand why would I watch a trailer of the movie I’m about to watch. It doesn’t make any sense to me

Sorry if this is covered somewhere but I couldn't find it! I need recommendations on a good starter NAS

Title says pretty much all there is. Im just getting started in this and don’t want to go too crazy. Im willing to go as high as $250 right now which, when i look around, i know isn’t gonna get me anything absolutely amazing but hey back off im an instacart driver lol

Scrollone,

Build it yourself! I bought a used HP desktop from eBay and I couldn’t be happier.

Scrollone,

Just check if the case has enough space for your needs. In my case (pun intended) I just wanted two HDDs, and my SFF case has enough space for those.

Scrollone,

Keeping an app up to date takes time and work. Especially if it needs cloud services (e.g. multiplayer games).

Good luck trying to maintain an app forever if people just pay it once.

Scrollone,

You are actually owning it, because you can download the DRM-free installer and keep it forever.

Scrollone,

Depends on the country. Some countries don’t give a flying fuck about people pirating

Scrollone,

Well, on the other side of the pond, the French telecom Free has a full fledged torrent and Usenet client right in their router control panel haha

It's funny how google pretends the music on YouTube isn't straight up piracy and everyone just goes along with it

Most people have extremely weird ideas of what’s considered piracy and what isn’t. Downloading a video game rom is piracy, but if you pay money to some Chinese retailer for an SD card containing the roms, that’s somehow not piracy. Exploiting the free trial on a streaming site by using prepaid visa cards is somehow not...

Scrollone,

I can’t speak for other countries, but in Italy YouTube pays a lot of money to the Italian copyright holders company for all the potentially pirated videos uploaded by its users.

Scrollone,

They didn’t do that in the past. Maybe they did it to comply and prevent companies from suing them

Scrollone,

I think KDE has been way more customizable historically

Scrollone,

I used to be a GNOME fanboy, but then GNOME 3 came and I can’t stand it. Now I’m a KDE fanboy

Scrollone,

I agree. It’s not impossible but it’s cumbersome. You at least need an iOS device.
