Perfection. Debian + GNOME Software + Flatpak = Rock solid and clean OS with the latest software.

There are a few things that still need to be ironed out tho. For eg. communication between desktop apps and browser extensions such as this.

Another thing I would like to see is a decent and supported way to mirror flathub and/or have offline installations.

@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

The best launcher you can get for AppImages is to just drop the thing and move to Flatpaks that don’t take 2 seconds to launch apps.

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

Appimage and snap. Why no flatpak?

I know why. They’re most likely running into this scenario as well.

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

Some apps are only available as appimages.

Yeah I know, I was just joking around, still AppImages are annoying.

Performance… or lack of it. Overhead.

Because it only lets you copy to the clipboard, lol.

Fair enough. :P

How and why is Usenet still a thing? Damn.

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

What’s the point of paying for piracy?

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t have speed issues with torrents / soulseek for that tho. Can still be encrypted.

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

torrents are typically 1-2mbps maybe 3 if you’re lucky and if you’re not it can take days to complete

That’s not my experience at all, I’m usually downloading at around 200-350Mbps (can’t do more that’s the limit of my connection) on TV shows etc.

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

Torrents certainly still have their place, but Usenet is just generally superior in all aspects,

Yeah something payed, closed and not open is certainly better. lol

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

if you’re paying for a vpn, then paying for usenet is no different.

But I’m not. The only thing I’m going is requiring encrypting from all peers and using this blacklist.

Guess I’m a fucking legend 😂 😂

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

All they need to do is request the content from you, watch you send to them, and make a record of your ip address. The blacklist, maybe protects you. No idea

Yes I’m aware of this fact. And I’m not saying what I do is for anyone and everyone, not even suggesting it.

Here is the information on the list I’m using: www.iblocklist.com/list?list=ydxerpxkpcfqjaybcssw

Brazil Regulator Claims "80% of Pirate TV Boxes" Were Blocked Last Week * TorrentFreak (torrentfreak.com)

Brazil’s telecoms regulator Anatel claims that during an operation last week, it successfully blocked around 80% of pirate ‘TV boxes’ in the country. Estimates from early 2023 suggest that seven million were active in Brazil. The operation, claimed to be the most significant ever carried out, arrives just weeks after...

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

As if 80% of the users would do that. The reality in Brazil might not be what you think, those people aren’t’ tech savvy people, not even close. They’re most likely people who bought a box from someone selling them door-to-door that was it.

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah but those will get pirated content either way. The problem is the 80% that won’t be able to do it as just trash the boxes.

Piracy is Preservation (feddit.de)

Image description: a screenshot from the Wikipedia page for the Doctor Who TV series, with a user-added caption that reads “Preserve the media you can before it’s gone forever.” The Wikipedia article reads, “No 1960s episodes exist on their original videotapes (all surviving prints being film transfers), though some were...

Yes this is a real concern, this is called “cultural genocide” or destruction and is the kind of thing that expressive regimes do to their history or culture in order to mold generations of people to their desire… I wonder what’s going on with the world right now.

Cultural genocide involves the eradication and destruction of cultural artifacts, such as books, artworks, and structures.[5]

The phrase “cultural destruction” refers to an incidence of a culture being seriously damaged or destroyed as a result of external or internal forces. Cultural destruction was a common feature of the colonial era and the conquest of the Americas.

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

Yes it is, you’re destroying culture. And it isn’t only one episode or one tv show, there are countless reports on episodes and movies that are suddenly missing parts, episodes etc because it “hurts” someone. Let alone “politically correct” remakes from Disney. How come you don’t see this is what China and others do with imported media?

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

Here is my experience with it.

Up until last week I’ve had friends (who also use uBlock Origin, same country) kind of sequentially complaining for about a month about having the videos blocked. For me personally it has been working fine until then, but Friday I got the popup. Today the popup is gone however I get ads but they don’t play video, only sound.

YouTube isn’t rolling out the anti-adblock to everyone. It seems to depend on things like your account, browser, and IP address. And if you’re not logged in or you’re in a private window, you’re safe. As a result, there are a bunch of people saying, “I use XYZ and I haven’t seen an anti-adblock popup yet,” unknowingly spreading misinformation.

What I see with this is that Google might eventually lose more with this new policies than just leaving things as they were. Lets be real, if this shit show continues and they don’t drop it as it becomes increasingly difficult to watch without ads people will start looking for alternative frontends such as Piped or Invidious and that will hinder their ability to harvest data and force ads. What’s the next step Google? DRM protected media?

TCB13,

TCB13,

Yes but it might end there. Google can and will eventually push for DRM, after all they’re the ones making the web has DRM…

Websites to download cracked software for Windows?

Yes, I have looked in the megathread. Specifically under the sections “All Purpose”, “Tools”, and “Software”… however, I didn’t find any general, all purpose websites for cracked software. Or at least, the megathread never had something in it that said “great website for cracked software”....
