TimeSquirrel, (edited ) to linux in I feel like breaking my windows install was a rite of passage
@TimeSquirrel@kbin.social avatar

My right of passage was trying to run hobby websites in the early 2000s using a pirated copy of Windows Server with IIS. Then I discovered Apache and Linux LAMP stacks and realized how much IIS sucks and it was all over from there.

I even was inspired to get back into programming due to wanting to learn PHP ( I only had some QBasic experience at the time). Now I can do PHP, C, C++, and JS (granted they all have extremely similar syntax)

There are adult people alive right now who save things in software with a button that looks like a floppy disk without even knowing what it is. It will become part of normal language as just another word who's origin was forgotten. Just like we still "tape" and "film" things with digital cameras.

Not that I'm a proponent of it or anything, but people were saying the exact same thing ten years ago after the first big bubble. I don't think it's going anywhere. There's too much greed in the world, and it's too enticing. At this point you might as well be a nun trying to get porn banned worldwide.

As not a gamer, I keep forgetting about games and that people also use computers to play them.

Oh, funny you mention that, because in my country, my government paid to have fiber laid but the useless bloodsucking capitalist ISPs didn't do absolutely jack shit with the money and pocketed it. That's why were having to do stupid shit like Starlink now to connect the people out in the sticks.

My electricity is also provided by a co-op.

Everybody in here does all this crazy shit with their system. I just wanna use my computer, man. I cruise on defaults all day long. I barely even bother changing the DE's default wallpaper.

Bavaria is probably the most "German" german region. That's where all the lederhosen stereotypes come from.

Basically it's the Texas of Germany. Old school, religious, and conservative.

Edit: in the very rural parts, they even have their own dialect that to some Germans is almost completely unintelligible. I realized this when I took German language classes in high school in the USA and what they were having me learn was very much NOT the way my Bavarian mother spoke to me. It felt kind of irritating when they told me I was pronouncing things wrong and my grammar was wrong when I fuckin' lived there as a child and spoke it fluently.
