WHO chief warns against misinformation over global pandemic accord (news.un.org)

The head of the UN World Health Organization on Thursday spoke out forcefully against “misinformation on social media and in the mainstream media” which has falsely alleged that a new global pandemic accord being negotiated, would allow the WHO to override national sovereignty relating to a future outbreak.

I did install a Sega Genesis emulator on a old laptop during the Xmas break to play some NHL94 and 95 with modern rosters.

That was a lot of fun. I also installed Pirates! Gold after a day and it was fun to revisit these games from my youth.

I loved the ability to save stats.

However after a couple of days I’ve not really played them again since. It only cost $14 for the Sega controller so it was worth the price. I don’t think I could buy 2 beers at a bar locally for that.

When was Times Square rejuvenated? Was it during his watch?

I had read at some point after WW2 Times Sqaure slipped into seedy and run down with building owners on the brink of bankruptcy before efforts were made to reclaim the area from the places that were not desirable.

I wonder if he had any role in that?

I would too. I would love to see this spin on the old westerns where the settlers are pushing further into Indian country and instead of the Indians being the badies as they defend the territory, the settlers are portrayed as the invaders, and they are turned back to return to Europe like the Vikings did before 600 years before them.

Most here will recommend Linux Mint and it’s what I use now after trying many different versions over the years. There’s a simplicity to Mint that just works especially well for those just surfing and doing office tasks. I’ve given away old work laptops with just mint installed as most people just need a web browser and it works great for that.

MS office can be used in your web browser or you can switch to Libre Office which should open most of your office files.

If you have a old laptop or computer I recommend trying to install Mint there first to try it out. It’s pretty easy to start out there first before trying dual boot. You might be surprised at how quick your older laptop works with Mint in the process.

I use dual boot on my machines but most of the use these days is to get to a web browser so I find I rarely boot into windows now.

You will find Firefox is the default web browser but you can add Chrome to Mint if that’s your browser of choice.

Many will say what about the privacy issues with Chrome but many still use it. I’ve switched back to Firefox myself and I like it better for my Android phone.

Good luck on your journey!

Yes we never really know what someone else is up to. Often they can be straight up A-holes, but there are those in emergency situations.

When driving especially my truck and camper many were confused why I pulled over so often to let vehicles by on 2 lane roads. I slowed down in passing sections to manage traffic behind me safely to pass. They were expecting people to hold them up as it is everyone else for themselves especially when passing lanes come and the slow pokes only speed up for those. The worst are those that ride in the passing lane without moving over and get into the I’m going to show them and block them in.

I loved driving down in the states with several lanes to the highway with lanes for every speed. I could pick a lane and not hold up people that wanted to go faster than the 80 miles/hr in Texas. 80 m/hr is pretty fast for a loaded truck and camper so I was relieved I didn’t need to hold up people in these situations especially people like me in my Volvo 850 T5 that have places to go!

Excellent, yes it was a company that spent multiple millions on SAP and everything went back to multiple versions of these excel spreadsheets the accountants maintained that contained all the costing, time, and labour rates. They also generated code to inject new SKUs into SAP. It seemed pretty fragile to me.

I wish this was the case at my local park. It is surrounded by horse stables and owners. There’s a lot of horse traffic being one of the local rural areas with horses. The local roads have flashing signs to warn of horses on the road and to slow down. There’s even a pub further up with a small paddock out front for owners to tie up their horses while they go in for a pint.

I would think just flicking the dog poop off the trail would be better for the environment than plastic bags left everywhere but in the times above when car first came around, our cites were covered in horsesh!t and in some cases bloated horse carcasses waiting to be disposed of. In many respects we’ve come a long ways since.

What’s going on down there? You guys ok? Please don’t ever let them suggest poutine and maple syrup as their next go to…

I'm currently downloading a show that is on a service to which I subscribe

I have a Galaxy Tab S7 and for a trip to Spain I downloaded some stuff to watch on the flight. When I got on the plane none of the stuff downloaded on Disney+ would play. Maybe an issue with downloading to the SD card? I don’t know, but regardless Disney offers SD card as a download destination so they should make sure it is...

WashedOver,
@WashedOver@lemmy.ca avatar

Not sure if Disney+ has this issue but I sometimes leave my Netflix tablet in airplane mode when going to another country. If the show is not available in that country when connected to the internet it will not allow play back of the shows I’ve downloaded.

I have Mint on all my older Lenovo T and X series laptops. They run like champs except for the audio. It’s never loud enough. It’s fine though with a Bluetooth headset or external speaker. I wonder how yours are with extremal keyboard and mouse? Mine is ok but my Logitech Keys lights keep cycling through the lights

It’s amazing even for the cheaper CnC machines in other industries running on Dos or Win95, 98, XP. I use to have to maintain the hardware of these older PCs as the initial outlay to replace the machines was fairly high compared to stress and much lower cost of finding old hardware.

In the end with the modem equivalent CnC machines on the lower end we would only see minimal upgrades to the functions of the machines, versus the updates to the software. Let’s me honest that would become obsolete yet again within a few years.

It’s the circle of life?

A lot of great shows mentioned. To add to the list of upbeat the gf and I are working our way through Modern Family. The early seasons are pretty upbeat and lighthearted. I do wonder where they will end up in the later seasons as the families age.

Working Moms is something the gf watches and what I’ve seen had been pretty great and has some good fun shock value. I’m surprised where they go with some of the humour. Usually only animated shows get away with this.

I would add Archer but I haven’t finished the last couple of seasons so I’m not sure where it ends up on the fun and outrageous scale.
