Zeth0s, to asklemmy in Tech workers - what did your IT Security team do that made your life hell and had no practical benefit?

They set zscaler so that if I don’t access an internal service for an unknown number of months, it means I don’t need it “for my daily work”, so they block it. If I want to access it again I need to open a ticket. There is no way to know what they closed and when they’ll close something.

In 1 months since this policy is active, I already have opened tickets to access test databases, k8s control plane, quality control dashboards, tableau server…

I really cannot comment how wrong it is.

Zeth0s, to asklemmy in What can we do, as lemmy users, to fight fake news being pushed in the platform?

I don’t put wsj as reputable. I meant that even a journal considered reputable as wsj has been found publishing fake news in the past. That’s why I say that I am pro filtering all Murdoch’s media

Edit. I added an adjective in the original comment to make it clearer

Zeth0s, (edited ) to asklemmy in What can we do, as lemmy users, to fight fake news being pushed in the platform?

The real challenge is “how do users can judge what is a fake news?”. In a similar situation it is an extremely difficult task even for newspapers with journalists on the field. See what’s happening with the blame-shifting on the bombing of Gaza’s hospital.

Even guardian and bbc have trouble understanding where is the truth.

A solution could be filtering the sources (for instance, no unknown blogs, or the sun and fox News, only reputable sources such as guardian and bbc). But important real news might be missed in this case, that are direct testimony of journalists on the field. And supposedly reputable sources such as wsj or similar are also known to have shared fake news, particularly when it comes to this conflict. And also reputable sources are biases.

It is an extremely difficult topic. No one has a definitive answer unfortunately.

I would be in favor of filtering at least the widely known sources of fake news (shady blogs, all Murdock’s media and so on)

Edit. An adjective to clarify

Zeth0s, to movies in I just watched Barbie, What did you guys think of the movie?

Best barbie is barbie girl by aqua. Everything else is forgettable

Zeth0s, (edited ) to memes in And the world was flat, like an Italian pizza

No, its taste isn’t something that Italians would appreciate. It tastes like a cheap mix of a cheap German frankfurter and cheap calabrese 'nduja. It’s almost impossible to find it in Italy.

I have never seen it in my life in Italy

Zeth0s, (edited ) to memes in And the world was flat, like an Italian pizza

Thanks, so I don’t have to be that “actually” guy mentioning that 99% of Italians have never seen pepperonis in their life. You saved me

Zeth0s, to asklemmy in What is the most unhelpful advice you have received?

For me it’s the opposite, at school I was forced to take notes. Teacher would give me bad grades if they saw me not talking notes. But notes are completely useless for me, and if I take notes I don’t understand the lecture. So I started the habit to sketch on notebooks pretending to take notes. Schools can be pretty stupid

Zeth0s, to asklemmy in Anyone else missing posts in smaller Lemmy communities because they are overshadowed by the popular ones?

I blocked meme, shitposting and 196.

All is nicer now.

I liked some of the memes but they were too many

Zeth0s, to asklemmy in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I agree that algorithms are more often good for these task. But we are not many :D

Zeth0s, to asklemmy in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

All lacks a creative filtering to balance meme and proper content. Those are the infamous “algorithm” people are so afraid about. I don’t believe we’ll ever see them here, because the platform was built to “protest” against those smart sorting and filtering. As the algorithm doesn’t do it for you, you have to manually do the work selecting and subscribing relevant communities. And check home feed

Zeth0s, to asklemmy in Who is the third faction in the leaked Google memo about AI?

No, they are separate entities. MS heavily funded openai once musk left and has a preferential access to its products and tech

Zeth0s, to asklemmy in Who is the third faction in the leaked Google memo about AI?

If you read the memo they talk about meta as possible benefiter of open source advances

Zeth0s, to asklemmy in Who is the third faction in the leaked Google memo about AI?

Microsoft currently lack the internal know how on AI. It is behind. They are the best understanding the average user/company needs, but they currently depend on openai. Either the buy openai (risking to destroy it because Microsoft is relatively bad at real research and cutting edge engineering) or they need to invest a lot more than Google.

If you read the memo, the 3rd player is meta. Microsoft is not even considered.

Microsoft will for sure make more money than anyone else, because that’s their job, making more money than anyone. They are a bad tech company, but a great money printer company
