You know, it’s a universal thing. That’s what MAGA is about, that’s what Hitler pushed. Glorifying distant past no one really remembers, reinventing it, it’s fucked up, especially if it’s promoted via selective parts of it. You can’t use political stunts as a proof of anything. They sell you dreams because they can’t show something real, they can’t show important systemic improvements. In times of fuck ups, they show you that billboard, shining so bright it’s blinding, while bread prices climb 2-3x to what they were a decade ago. And people indulge in that constructed feeling of it being better before, while government can do whatever they want.

What’s with that whataboutism? I don’t care about the US. Why do your type brings it up every time, like it makes USSR’s wrongdoings more acceptable. It doesn’t. It’s rather a lesson to learn and not repeat in your country.

and the USSR had a tendency to send a massive amount of their prisoners to Siberia, which would make it difficult to help build apartment blocks several thousand miles away.

So? They built infrastructure there, yes, so it’s enormous territory can be somehow crossable. And they also built infrastructure, housing and plants\factories all over it’s territory. Gulag wasn’t just a one small camp, it’s the Main Office of Camp (Managenent), it had a lot of people to send elsewhere, based on what Kremlin wants.

You know a lot of soviet buildings was built by prison labor? Let’s make a next meme about egyptian pyramids. They look great too.

It seems like a big company’s problem. They have a well-paid design\marketing department that can do whatever they want to create the best-selling interface for the new version of Windows, but before it’s released, no one tested it yet for anything but bugs, and who’d argue with a flock of top designers anyway? Add here the board of directors who are here to sell them ideas and who won’t use it either – I’m sure they applauded to the idea of unifying mobile and desktop experience with WinPhone&Win8, but especially Tablet-Laptop transformers they saw as the future. It sounds great on the paper, right? At that time it could’ve even sounded obvious for their business. And so it happened like it did.

Linux counters it by constant feedback and competition between easily switchable DEs, users being prepared even to jump distros; Apple has a fetish for style and experience (that’s a half of their pricetag), they build their business model about looking and feel nice, so you’d build an ecosystem of their products, you can’t even see error windows here and their garden is gated af; and ChromeOS\Android aren’t shy of looking what others do (like iPhone’s design findings) and conservatively taking what works, also having tons of vendor-created restyles\forks on their own platform as a testing ground for new ideas to make them then a standard. MS lack all of it, and their creative process is guided by external interests and ideals, it’s just an afterthought. And as they have their stable market share, they probably won’t even care. It took whole internet’s screams to return their traditional start menu in win8.1, then w10.

That’d probably stay the same until their new CEO would happen to be an art college graduate - like the current one pushed for accessebility and building special controllers because she has a child with a disability. A top-down signal. I won’t bet on it anytime soon.

What ‘bruh’?

It isn’t hard to drop a <br> before one starts explaining a completely different OS.

andrew_bidlaw,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Reading it in a linear fashion, you drop one distro after another without much distinction. I believe it’d be better if you serve EndOS it’s own paragraph since it’s so different.

andrew_bidlaw,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Mint, with any DE, does come with a graphical package manager. It’s as easy as any appstore. The only confusion is it suggests both it’s original and flatpack versions to install.

I think you are talking about EndevourOS there.

Do you think the government itself is involved here, or is it just volunteers? Did it occur to fediverse? I think here you are talking about reddit, right?

I’m not Indian and all I’ve seen lately are news about how bad their ecological and ethnic situations under Modi are. I’ve heard of something named like r/chodi, but mostly from drama write-ups. What’s the scale of brigading we are talking about?

andrew_bidlaw,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

I don’t think it’s worth the effort in 95% of cases. How many people would care to troll or argue like that? They’d hardly be reasoned with even if proofs are at hand.

It’s mainly keywords at that point. This process is sure to have steps. To step into a suspected category, to be elevated into those who are to be studied closer, you should ring some alerts.

As far as I know, LLMs are not that clever yet, and it would require a lot of work to automate tracking of so many targets. But a dedicated person tracking one user can see these. Unknowingly, we leave a lot of cues to know who we are. Not only patterns, but exact word-markers, like calling something by a regional-accepted name. Like how my english teachers insisted London’s metro is called Tube.

Thank you for the link.

I can imagine a couple of ways it can be obfuscated, but here in your link I’ve been reminded ActivityPub also serves Mastodon, where interactions are way less impersonal by design.

Haha. If all of us would do so, we’d sure up this usercount to combat Meta’s Threads and dying Twitter.

I like the fact that a couple of times I’ve printed misheard lyrics, there were sites dedicated to that. I believe the last time it was something from RHCP that I’ve seen misattributed to another band.

I doubt anyone’d be able to keep them alight. Assuming the even distribution between cigs, two, maybe four can be kept at the same time by a regular person (ignoring the irritation coming from it), and she has twenty. She needs to pump air like she’s having ten lungs.

I blame technology for that one. Animals on coats of arms are created in one, maybe two colors, they are to be replicated in various sizes and materials. It’s a simplified shape that is easy to copy and can still be read on flags, on documents etc.

What if they were hanging out with their dog or had to put down their mother? You’d be glad they haven’t got sick that weekend.

One of the things Tumblr did better than everyone else. It’s chained reblogs don’t resize the original post and you can watch the chain in chronological order. You could’ve seen it in screencaps made there. Sometimes it leads to really cool random collabs.

Example.
