Though I do make a mean tamale pie, and that’s a pretty good cheap way to stretch out leftover protein when it isn’t enough left to feed the both of us.
This sounds pretty much exactly like that. It’s about the only downside, as it’s first come (to reserve a box in the app), first served, and you get a half hour pickup window.
The way they sell it to places is they make it so it’s no more work than just tossing it would be, but you get a sale.
I don’t know if this is the type of thing you were asking, but it’s one I’ve been using about once a week lately.
I was listening to How I Built This with Guy Raz, and he had on a lady that wanted to eliminate food waste. She started the app Too Good To Go.
Partner businesses will pack up about $15 of food at the end of the shift, and instead of tossing it, they put it in a to go box for you for $5.
Tonight we had jerk chicken and sides from a Caribbean place, another time we got 4 big pizza slices overloaded with toppings, and our favorite is the Manhattan Bagels gives us 15-17 bagels. We’ve also tried a vegan bakery, which is way too expensive for us, but for my girlfriend’s nephew with a severe egg allergy was a great surprise.
These are all places we wouldn’t normally go, but they’ve all been really tasty, helped eliminate some waste, and let us try some new restaurants for a fiver. We’re kinda in the country, so there aren’t too many options, but I looked in the nearby city and there are a lot, and the app started in Europe, so you non-US people don’t have to miss out.
So maybe not the super cheap lentil curry recipe I have, but this was an intriguing things I recently learned about and have been looking to share awareness about.
Even if you don’t have much cash, it still feels nice to be able to get restaurant food sometimes too, and this is a cheap and mutually beneficial way to do that.
If the shop vac can’t get down far enough, duct tape a bit of PVC pipe or some other study tubing to the end of the vacuum hose. The standard nozzle might be too short or wide for getting where you need it, but it should be the quickest way to do what you need.
If you want to see more birds, both my bad pictures, but many more good ones taken but actual photographers, check out !superbowl for my daily posts. Lots of cool photos, and some great bird facts.
Yes, the starlings are the only ones I have to constantly remind myself that I don’t really hate them. 😂 At the end of winter they really start to destroy my feeder station.
I bought into the blue jays scorn since I grew up being told they were jerks, but it changed one day when I decided to offer one a peanut. I’ve got 7 pretty regular bird buds now.
My cardinals are pretty shy, but this year a mating pair of them learned they can get the peanuts too. I don’t see them near as much, but the lady cardinal is the more aggressive of the 2 when it comes to getting food and she will try to beat the jays too them occasionally and she can hold her own if she really wants that treat!
I love my blue jays so much! They’re corvids like crows and ravens, so they are very smart and have tons of personality.
They became my buddies over Covid and I’ve gotten to watch them raise their families. They’ll call each other when they see me outside and sit in me tree and wait for me to bring them snacks. They’ll all approach in different ways, some braver, some more shy. They’ll discipline the young ones. The young ones will play with each other. They make many more calls than the harsh jeer call. They’ll do a little bobbing dance for me or each other when they’re excited.
They’ve never picked on the other songbirds. The only things I’ve seen them get upset about were crows and hawks. Though 2 did get into it with each other pretty good once.
They’re really great animals once you get over the stereotypes of them, and they are one of the things I miss every day about having to take a new job where I can’t be at home and interact with them throughout the day.
Did see someone mention chicken tortilla and pasta fagioli which reminded me it’s been too long since I’ve made either of those, but I haven’t seen anyone recommend my personal fav, beef barley!
If anyone’s got a good pozole recipe, I’d love to check that out also!
Have you met anyone from Western Pennsylvania? You’d understand a number of them not knowing where they are on a map!
Lol I kid. Western PA, aka Pennsyltucky, is our Florida Man territory.
Ohio I definitely consider the start of the Midwest.
The others are right though mentioning the obscene number of rebel flags in PA though. My brother was guilty of it for a while in sad to say too. I’m in the Southeast, the most metropolitan part of the state, and they’re all over. They’re usually hung next to the MAGA stuff, which I’m sure comes as little surprise. Honestly I’d probably prefer the stars and bars to the Trump crap because at least the flag is aesthetically less ugly visually, and the person flying it could just be ignorant or is at least being honest about their beliefs instead of the poorly veiled hate the MAGA trash represents.
Arkansas was the surprising state to me. I guess I just don’t ever think about anything related to Arkansas so I lump it in with the Midwest instead of the South, which I think of as the tourist destination states.
