I love this wild west phase of the Fediverse! Feels like the good ole days of the Internet. Onwards!

This is just the kind of nonsense I come to Lemmy for while drinking my first cup of coffee * chef’s kiss *

If he was walking just a bit faster, he’d be in tune with Staying Alive

I hope at some point more people start contributing to the core lemmy codebase as well. I don’t suppose there’s that many rust devs out there, but I think that would have much more of an impact in the long run.

Devs, yes, but I think very few of us program in rust :)

lol, can’t disagree

I bet you didn’t notice the words “nligh” and “tened” in enlightened either until now

That word always seemed so overly dramatic to me 😁

What environment are you referring to? Netflix certainly doesn’t control Lemmy or the broader Internet.

Trying out Librewolf, I realized just how many sites (including Reddit!) use tricks like canvas fingerprinting to identify me up to 99% uniqueness. And here I thought just a VPN, uBO and no cookies would be enough!

It’s honestly scary how easy it is to fingerprint you

Yeah, 💯. Of course, if we resist fingerprinting too much, we make ourselves have a unique fingerprint again 😁 I assume some of the tools you’ve mentioned randomize the fingerprint instead of just hiding it?

    Didn’t click your link,

    Haha, no worries!

According to Arkenfox user.js the Canvas Fingerprint randomization is caused by Firefoxs Resist Fingerprinting

Nice, I should make sure I have FF’s fingerprint resistance on.

Tor Browser has such strong privacy

Yeah, hopefully more and more people start putting up strong privacy walls, so there’s more of a crowd to blend with!

Wait, if it’s double-blind, wouldn’t the scientists be unaware of whether he got a placebo or the real drug? Although I suppose this could be after the study has concluded. I would bet that in real studies they record the side effects reported before checking to see if it was the placebo or not!

    anonymoose,
    @anonymoose@lemmy.ca avatar

Sure, but that’s just the placebo effect? I thought the double-blind process referred to something else in particular (hence the “double” part of the blind):

A double-blind study blinds both the subjects as well as the researchers to the treatment allocation [1]

In any case, I was mostly just curious, don’t intend to nit-pick the title :)

Well then, how will they gloat and laugh in the participant’s face like in the comic?

Haha, thanks. Gives me an excuse to carry potato chips on hikes :P

Wait, so pure boiled potato would be one of the fastest sources of energy? Wow, that’s wild!

Yeah, makes sense. My dad has type 2 and always carries around some candy or glucose in case he gets hypoglycemic
