averyminya,

That’s a tricky one. Wages in games don’t have to be low necessarily, it’s just corporations that make that more common.

Luck is a big factor, but look at the dev of Lethal Company. Wages in games is huge for them!

Oh shoot I-i mean,

You wouldn’t download a game.

averyminya,

Thank you! I think the reduction really helps with that, but it was nice and tender which I don’t always get from pork chops so I was pleasantly surprised!

averyminya,

No, it stands for “Nethers Seriously, Furiously Wet”

Me vs my ISP

So I was looking into getting port forwarding set up and I realized just how closed-off the internet has gotten since the early days. It’s concerning. It used to be you would buy your own router and connect it to the internet, and that router would control port-forwarding and what-have-you....

averyminya,

Is that possible with something like T-Mobile Home Internet?

Is linux good for someone tech illererate.

Now i’ve been considering moving to linux. I don’t have much of a history using a computer and find it tougher to use than my phone. But I also really appreciate the foss movement. I’ve currently got an old laptop running windows 11 I think and it would prolly speed up with linux too. But I’m afraid I’d fuck smth up...

averyminya,

I agree, but this was instantly. Like sub-10 minutes. . .

averyminya,

B-b-but my habit of scrolling up to read private messages!MY HABIT!!!

averyminya,

What’s the difference between a swipe up to tap on messages bubble and tapping an icon at the bottom bringing you directly to the page?

averyminya, (edited )

TBH I’ve yet to come across any game I haven’t been able to play (aside from the obvious VR/occasional anti-cheat), most unsupported games just haven’t been tested for most cases

Edit: out of curiosity I actually went through my library to see just how many unsupported games I could download and try (again, not the VR ones lol).

I ended up getting caught up playing Revita all day and it says unsupported but it definitely works! For anyone else interested in that game, it is having some development quirks but there’s a public beta branch of it that seems to be the “definitive” version of the game.

Uploaded a control scheme template for the beta since there wasn’t one I liked :D

Then I tried an old DOS game Litil Divil which also worked just fine. I’d have tried some others but like I said, addicting game be addicting

averyminya,

I played online on the Wii quite a lot, it was fine. Smash bros a ton, 007 Golden Eye and The Conduit, and good old MH Tri.

Literally a thousand hours in that last one alone most of which was spend online. Did you not use Ethernet? Wi-Fi was shitty for sure, because everybody had shitty wi-fi back then. (I’m also not saying it was amazing, but it was free and serviceable)

averyminya,

I’m guessing it grabs from private tracker

averyminya,

Regarding your last point, I agree, however it is not as important and it does take up resources that could otherwise be used for the people who need it (journalists utilizing tor, victims trying to get away from abusers etc).

Especially given that there are still alternatives to piracy without tor, whereas there are far fewer alternatives for these people.

That said, you’re still right, it’s minimal. Overall though, options for piracy without tor are accessible and should still be used when possible. From my understanding, few circumstances arise where pirating over tor is a better method for you and for others

Basically, use tor for legitimate content to help make tor safer for others using it.

averyminya,

YouTube comments are wildly hit or miss. You either get funny memes, thank you changed my life, or absolute garbage not worth reading.

But as you said it definitely depends on the actual creator and the type of content.

averyminya,

How is it slow?

averyminya,

Then google should have done a better job vetting the ads so they don’t have malicious redirects or malware so that users wouldn’t feel the need to run adblocks to be safe.

In fact, Google as the most pervasive advertiser should probably have done that for all ads. I imagine if they weren’t so terrible, ad-blocks wouldn’t be so prevalent.

averyminya,

That’s one of the reasons I like Piped, the video you are currently on does have a small similar-to feed on the side

averyminya,

All that is removed with the pro version, but I understand the hesitation.
