What are the best steps to reduce the wealth of billionaires?

There are a myriad of news articles here on Lemmy that display the abhorrent influence billionaires have on our society (especially the US, where I reside). I consistently read comments where the posters appear hopeless and despondent of the situation, while others jokingly refer to the guillotine....

Labor organizing, laws, and taxes. Same way we got what we have now but the work isn’t done.

Same way a printer works, or color blending for that matter, with RGB or CMYK you can make any color. Primary colors and brightness. Greyscales and magentas are extra-spectral.

The aftermath of racial desegregation court victories are some of the most interesting things in recent US history. A law would be struck down and sort of left like that… and people would take it upon themselves to organize and challenge the new law, often in the face of violent opposition. Freedom Riders taking busses down to the south to challenge desegregation of public transit being met with mobs and put in jail.

Sounds gross but as long as it isn’t with dishes and the dishwasher works right why would it be a problem? Soap is soap.

banneryear1868,

Do you eat food from your hands after using the washroom and/or showering?

Makes sense to go simplest as possible on a home pc and even home sever. More important with raid and production capacity planning or enterprise stuff.

It is my intention to suggest that Americans, including many historians, tend to accord race a transhistorical, almost metaphysical, status that removes it from all possibility of analysis and understanding. Ideologies, including those of race, can be properly analyzed only at a safe distance from their terrain. To assume, by intention or default: that race is a phenomenon outside history, is to take a position within the terrain of racialist ideology and to become its unknowing -and therefore uncontesting- victim. “Religious suffering is the expression of real suffering and also a protest against it. Religion is the opium of the masses. Religion is the heart of a heatless world. Religion is the soul of soulless conditions.”

Religion isn’t a separate thing from culture that can be cleaved off like this. The form it takes is contingent on conditions of people’s lives and power structures. People also don’t make a conscious choice to believe or disbelieve in religion, if you’re an atheist you can’t just willingly choose to believe. Society is not directed by the willful actions of people’s collective beliefs like this either, it’s more a Darwinian process.

Also civil religion is a thing and it doesn’t necessarily align with what people think of “religion” but operates in a very similar way. A lot of atheists are probably adherents to aspects of civil religion without knowing or thinking of it this way.

I don’t understand this either, toilets already require running water and have plenty of room to integrate bidet function. It’s not fancy tech or anything… in North America that’s sort of how they’re marketed though, with an emphasis on the settings, like its something you have to learn to use.

This is what I do I sit on you, sit on you, sit on you

Even easier in powershell:

Get-NetAdapter

Disable-NetAdapter

Enable-NetAdapter

banneryear1868,

I just built a desktop for Windows 11, unfortunately I need a Windows desktop in the house even though Debian is my main OS. Last desktop was 13 years old and just wasn’t working for my needs anymore. Default 11 install is horribly bloated but I actually like the desktop environment now. Here’s some stuff I did:

Customized USB image to bypass Microsoft account with easily found steps if you Google. Used Chris Titus Tech’s tool to remove a bunch of shit, install apps, disable telemetry, configure windows update to security only. Used “Reclaim windows” script from github and customized for my purposes. After that I confirmed if all the shit was gone and did a remove-appxpackage for anything left, like widgets etc.

So I have a bare bones install, no Microsoft account, no Microsoft store, no “apps,” no default associations to builtin tools, and a bunch of common foss utilities and all my favorite windows-dependent apps working. Can’t believe it took the amount of effort it did but I like it now, given what my expectations were it definitely exceeded them.

MS is offering it

banneryear1868,

Yeah pretty much, most linux distros are at a usable state by default and you spend productive effort learning how to manage it, it’s probably easier than Windows at the end of the day especially for general use. I’m a heavy user of Ableton Live with plugins and using Windows is the only way to run it on your own hardware. Also becomes my gaming machine, but everything else is Debian.

banneryear1868,

Yeah I’ve been a mixed environment sysadmin for many years and still to keep need a Windows desktop at home and powershell makes it all happen. I basically do a complete debloat of my install and and all that. I actually like the overall Windows 11 desktop environment but omg the bloatware is insane I don’t know how people use it without knowing how to clean it up.

banneryear1868,

I wish home and pro version influenced the setting panes. I get what they’re trying to do with making it look like OSX and Linux and why the “network interface and adapters” probably isn’t helpful for many home users, but I just wanna manage my interfaces here.

Very true! Enterprise iso and MAS and basically done. My previous builds have mostly all been Enterprise edition and I’d definitely go that route if I knew 11 was gonna be so bad. A part of me was curious after hearing so much hate, and I didn’t mind learning how to remove it all because I could see it coming in useful for helping others, it was a good way to get exposed to all of it and I found some helpful tools I can send to people now.

banneryear1868,

Basically moved on from youth novels with both Dean Koontz and Stephen King. The Odd Thomas series was a fun read at that age.

A solid 6" soft 3.5" and contact with the rim is a problem, it really shouldn’t be at this size I feel. Also I often sit to pee at home cause I got my comfy seat and classy toilet space (Crohn’s things). It’s those super flat restaurant toilets where my balls might come close to the water but I don’t think they’ve ever touched thank god.

banneryear1868,

That was one thing I could never do when I was an “urban explorer” (fancy term for trespassing in to municipal water infrastructure), manholes always freaked me out so much my friends couldn’t even peer pressure me.

banneryear1868,

Why are they wearing programming socks when they aren’t programming?

banneryear1868,

Outside of unpredictable things like hacks which are bound to happen, always the potential of something with widespread impact, 2024 will be a year of increasing “AI” venture capital investment and some widely used online services are going to pivot or completely rebrand.
