Poor access to iron, too. He’s putting in a ton of effort to get like 5 grams of actual metal from the iron bacteria.

Primitive Technology

Low volume (not even 1 video a month), high quality, highly entertaining.

Beware of the copycats, though.

For…decades?

I had to go back and read up on the early history of video games. SNES came out in 1991, and yeah - looking at arcade games, Computer Space came out in 1971.

Video games are older than I realized.

I’ve started taking notes. “Next time, I want to start out by doing this or that.”

Then my only problem is starting the next time and going “Oooh, what about this other thing?” :D

The transition from the holiday season back to the normal drudgery is so depressing. Is there any way to make Jan / Feb less depressing?

like, it’s still dark at 5pm, there are barely any sports on, still bitterly cold and austere and it hurts to go outside, but you’re not even looking forward to christmas or the new year. the new year is here, and it’s largely the same as last year. except you’re getting older.

The only depressing thing in this thread is interacting with you, so I’m going to stop doing that after this comment.

Fleet Command! I’ve played it. Fun little tactical naval game. I think it was originally released as Jane’s Fleet Command.

I don’t remember anything about VB scripting, though.

Except…

Weird that such an ancient rule, purported to be efficient and sufficient, should seize one’s conscience and dash them from the sovereign heights of their ideas, making them forfeit any claims to proper spelling.

I await your reply at your leisure.

Rather foolish reply, don’t you think? Muslims aren’t known for celebrating Christmas.

IDK, it seems more like SHOP SHOP SHOP in the U.S. than anything religious.

What does algae have to do with extinction events? It seems like you’re using that as a sort of “gotcha!” line, but I don’t see the connection.

The aliens near the end were probably the biggest sf heartbreak ever for me. I want a sequel to Children of the Mind :(

I’m morbidly curious what region Minnesota is in if it’s not the Midwest. Surely he doesn’t call it part of the Old West? That would just be bonkers.

Always safe with a caserol at a dinner party.

Imposter! A true Minnesotan would know you bring hotdish. Casserole is a Southern dish.

Edit: Also, WTF is up with “caserol” instead of casserole?

Only a mortgage.

I had student loans, but I finished paying those ~5-6 years ago.

could be radians

That’s a reach. 360 (degree) spin is a common enough “could care less” type expression. There’s no way OP meant “spin 57 times, then turn a little more than one quarter more.”

Reserve your ire for the abuse heaped upon “unique”, fellow pedant.

Unique means one-of-a-kind. I die a little more inside every time I see someone slaughter it with “very unique” or “most unique”.

You’re only taking into account pollution

Yes, that’s correct. I’m not doing a serious study here, just summarizing the general sentiment I’ve observed.

oof. Apologies!
