flashgnash,

Am I the only one that thinks a Viking burial with a raft cobbled together out of logs and stuff by my loved ones would be awesome?

flashgnash,

I have tried with a couple myself and come to the conclusion that right now you’re probably better off buying an android tablet, putting a de-googled version of android on it and running termux if you need Linux on it

flashgnash,

Provided you don’t want to play one of the few games that refuse to enable Linux support on their anticheat I’ve found my PC can run games designed to run on windows far more smoothly now than they ever did on windows

flashgnash,

Having tried NTFS, ext4 and btrfs, the difference is not noticeable (though NTFS is buggy on Linux)

Btrfs I believe has compression built in so is good for large libraries but realistically ext4 is the easiest and simplest way to do so I just use that nowadays

flashgnash,

I have to disagree with this, with home-manager you can pretty much put just put your normal config files inside your NixOS config and map them into wherever they’re meant to go, except now they’re managed by nix

The built in config options are really nice but you don’t have to use them in the slightest as long as the package itsself is in nixpkgs

flashgnash,

Hallmark red and hallmark blue. There are certain characters you can only get through trading with someone who watched the other film

flashgnash,

It’s also Nvidia and will bring pain and suffering trying to game on linux

flashgnash,

Photoshop has no good alternative on Linux though that’s a very real reason to need windows

Personally I’m too cheap for a Photoshop license anyway so doesn’t bother me but some people need it

flashgnash,

Why would you not want weekly updates about cheddar cheese though

flashgnash,

Gnome I think is the best hope for mainstream adoption if that ever actually happens

Shows off a lot of the advantages of Linux desktop without needing to spend hours configuring it for it to look nice and work great

flashgnash,

The launcher is quite nice to use, fast and search oriented (I never used any of the start menu on windows besides the search bar anyway so the fact it’s the main focus is nice)

Virtual desktops (only on Wayland) are very well implemented and feel very smooth, three finger swipe works a charm, with the forge extension it tiles servicably as well

Also just one of the nicest looking DEs imo. I have since switched to hyprland because I wanted first class tiling support but I have my system UI looking very similar to gnome’s, using mostly gnome’s applications

Having used gnome on Ubuntu a couple years ago I have to say it has come miles recently (also Ubuntu’s gnome in my opinion is not as good as vanilla gnome) - it feels very clean and intuitive out of the box

flashgnash,

NixOS. You can change DE by editing a couple lines in your config, running sudo nixos-rebuild boot and rebooting

Linux on a 2in1 for Uni (lemmy.world)

Hello linix@lemmy, I got fixed on the idea of replacing my iPad with a 2in1 like the thibkpad X13 for uni since I use the keyboard with my iPad a lot. The only time I need to take handwritten notes is in chemistry, mathematics and to annotate PDFs. Does anyone here have experience with convertibles running Linux? What would be...

flashgnash,

Don’t get a Lenovo yoga they kinda suck

Not sure about the ThinkPad yogas, only used a non -thinkpad one but I’m sure someone will chime in

From what I hear, ironically enough the surface pros are pretty good for Linux

flashgnash,

I’ve just eaten a raisin cookie so I feel fantastic

flashgnash,

Raisin cookies > chocolate chip cookies

flashgnash,

You’re either really good at holding onto those things, or really good at losing/breaking phones

flashgnash,

See I don’t like people who impose vegetarianism and veganism but I really wish people would have more respect for dead animals.

Disgusting behaviour from some people

flashgnash,

To be fair I don’t think the focus of Bethesda games has ever been on graphics

flashgnash,

The question of whether politics should be allowed in meme communities is itsself political
