funkless_eck,

not particularly invested in this comment but isn’t the concept of “politician” essentially just “celebrity” nowadays anyway?

That someone has access to money and influence, can use those to set policy and maintain/secure both in-party and general-public votes. What’s the difference between politician and celebrity there? One could argue that experience in setting policy and/or studying law, but that doesn’t apply to a whole range of politicians anyway.

funkless_eck,

high-level: in the USA, download TV and movies and watch them on the TV without having to connect a cable from my computer to my TV.

I have mullvad on my phone, but when I installed it on my Pi it blocks all ssh connections (which was how I was using the pi), some googling told me this was expected behavior and I should configure my proxy/reverse proxy first with the VPN built in.

the webserver, as I understood it, is so I can watch the movies when it’s done, but again as I understand it, has to be configured alongside the VPN to let me in to watch stuff, but not show the government/police/whatever that I am watching stuff

funkless_eck,

this is what I’m trying to do. I’ve played around with the Arr apps and they work as far as I can tell - but don’t want to use them until the network/VPN stuff is secure and safe

"Network Settings: In Jellyfin’s network settings, make sure it’s set to listen on the correct network interface associated with your VPN connection.

"Port Forwarding: If you’ve previously set up port forwarding on your router for Jellyfin, you may need to reconfigure it to forward the VPN-assigned IP and port.

“Local IP Addresses: Check any configurations in Jellyfin that reference local IP addresses and update them if necessary to reflect the IP assigned by the VPN.”

as I said in my post: no instructions on how to configure it to "forward the VPN-assigned IP and port." or even what it really means (like I know port forwarding is where data comes in on an address, and is sent to another address, but how one reconfigures those, especially w/r/t a VPN I have no idea)

edit: I also believe that the port forwarding is where docker-compose is telling the pi where each app can be accessed via the .YML

but all of these words I hadn't even heard of until a few weeks ago when I started this process, so there's a lot I don't understand

funkless_eck,

Scottish, from Aengus, from Angaidh (An-Ghee)

funkless_eck,

uk comic book for adults made by Geordies.

funkless_eck,

why should either of those things be illegal?

funkless_eck,

what kind of roles are you applying for and at what level (entry, factotum, assistant, specialist, manager, director…?)

that will help what kind of presence you can have

that is one very strict definition of socialism, which is not a monolith. Nor is there any agreed Purity test of what is or is not socialism

… with that in mind - following your roads example still

 • if roads are paid for, described, prescribed and constructed / maintained by private companies as you say - why is the government involved at all? Isn’t it more accurate to say the government owns all roads (in the US- due to eminant domain- all land) and contracts private companies to build them
 • companies only exist by the express permission of and after registration by the government, and we can argue who holds the most soft power, but the fact is if you fuck up bad enough the government will disband your company for you
 • the existence of a market does not mean socialism is not happening: in reality, the “profit incentive” of capitalism is also tempered by the social contract of socialism. In my post I was careful to give examples of the social contract that outway pure profit incentives (ie you can’t build a factory in a national park)
 • I would say the process of agreeing to do something in exchange for money is neither (/unknowably) capitalist or socialist (or neither or both) without further context.
funkless_eck,

just remember it with this simple mnemonic:

Some Oranges Have

Curly and Heavy

Toes On Apples

funkless_eck,

I mean by the token of there being “a few” there…aren’t many.

I guess checking on a Saturday night might be my only advice. YMMV, I’ve seen it happen rarely, maybe it was a fluke.

funkless_eck, (edited )

to clarify, I meant it looks and feels like contact improv (the so-named discipline of dance, not to be confused with improv comedy etc) not that it was improvised.

funkless_eck,

why they never marketed a ti-85 mount for everyone’s daily carry Glock 19 I’ll never know

funkless_eck,

I imagine more yanks will know him from the gas mask kid episode of Dr Who

funkless_eck,

I disagree. Growing your own food is labor. Volunteering is labor. Organizing is labor. Caring for your family is labor.

funkless_eck,

By that token all labor is prostitution of a sort, and thus the term loses all meaning, so its pointless calling it that.

funkless_eck,

I’m mildly ambivalent about a lot of stuff, but also I can be easily convinced to hate it for a few minutes or a lifetime

funkless_eck,

not necessarily. Your “stakeholders” on the deal/contract that interface with product and success managers could all be VPs who never use the product.

funkless_eck,

That doesn’t sound like a very helpful or useful definition in day to day operations.

funkless_eck,

part of the reason why I loved both Succession and The Americans were they were written with an idea they would both end (plus incredible writing and performances in both).

funkless_eck,

not a scientist but I’m guessing they are siphoning some chemical by sucking up a small amount in the tube to transfer it to another container

funkless_eck,

joke comments aside, I always go back to it. familiar, comforting, pricey enough to be special, but not crazy enough to feel guilty.
