Having a few hours of the day where you went offline because you wanted to because either you couldn’t find anything interesting, your downloads were going to take hours, your PC was down, the internet was down or someone else wanted to use the computer.

So you had no choice but to go spend time going something else … go for a walk, play a sport, hang out with your friends, read a book or just walk downtown for no reason. And in all that time you were out, you had no phone and no connection to the internet which meant your mind was free to not really think of much for a few hours.

I like the internet and I like social media but I dislike the ability of everyone having, wanting, needing a perpetual connection to everyone and everything all the time.

I feel like a junky sometimes … I want to go offline but I’m so addicted to it that I never leave.

The more I hear and talk about with others about autism, the more I think that it all just has to do with just being human and a person with a unique set of personality traits and conditions.

Some of it might be healthy, some of it unhealthy, some brought about by upbringing, some brought about from trauma, some brought about my neglect but some also brought about because of having everything, or nothing, or too much, or too little.

It’s like gender identity … some people identify one way or another … some strongly identify, some don’t, some are just in the middle and some are off the spectrum … and many change over time and over a lifetime.

It’s the same with autism … some have a little bit of it, some don’t, some are aware, some are not, some are more affected, some are just a little affected but everyone has no clue and no one is capable of measuring it.

It’s just part of the human condition that we are all different … and its the differences that made us who we are as a civilization and a global society. We were successful not because of one person or one group of people … we were successful as a species because of all these individuals doing what they did and being who they were. It’s our chaotic mess of personalities, whether good or bad or perceived as good or bad that make up all the amazing things we have created, generate, construct, produce and imagine.

I think it’s a great thing … it’s worked for us for thousands of years … and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I agree … Nerds and DND people sound like a sensible bunch because they actually go out of their way to have fun without intoxicants.

What I’m talking about is the 90% of the population that can’t relate to other humans without getting a little drunk.

Lesson : If there is a large water feature anywhere near the party, find the nearest tall structure and attempt to jump from this high point into the water. What few people ever mention is … alcohol and sometimes drugs.

Very few people imagine a party without some intoxicant. Even children’s parties, parents will give a party for the kids but the adults seperate themselves to enjoy a bit of alcohol.

Just think of it … a party with 20 adults and no alcohol or drugs. Some people can do it but the majority of the population would avoid it.

Sore throat? … I’m 45 and I have the start of arthritic disease … last week I woke up with a pain in my shoulders, by the end of the day, I couldn’t lift my arms and the pain was unbearable - it felt like my arm wanted to separate from my body (and I actually wanted it to just to end the pain!) … at one point in your life as you get old, you wish it were just a sore throat.

Or sitting on the couch with a laptop and searching up wikis, Google, fan forums or social media to read about the movie you think you are watching but are actually ruining for yourself because you’re so distracted that you can’t actively read the laptop nor enjoy the movie at the same time … two hours go by and you can’t remember much about the movie or the little bits of information you read the whole time.

Yeah … everyone keeps talking about how the audience reacts to stuff that is given to them

No one ever asks who is giving / controlling / managing / manipulating the content that is given

This is like a rat experiment and the scientists keep analyzing the rats reactions and never talk about what they are giving the rats. If the rats are going bat shit crazy because they keep pumping them with sugar, amphetamines and cocaine … is it any wonder that the rats in a cage are going nuts?

Communications media and social media is controlled by a very small number of private corporations that have little to no control from governments or state organizations … the media companies basically have all the control of the content we consume, see and react to. We are only reacting to what we are seeing … what we are seeing is controlled by a small group of corporations.

We aren’t the problem

They are.
