jack,

Do you have to watch a loading screen while system updates are applied like on regular Fedora or is it in the background?

Many flatpak apps are maintained by unofficial volunteers, and this isn’t always clear on Flathub; I view this as a security risk and would prefer to see a flag or warning of some kind when a flatpak is not maintained by the official upstream developer

On flathub.org there’s a blue checkmark for apps maintained by the devs

jack,

I will keep that in mind, thank you

jack,

The image is downloaded and staged in the background of the active session. Upon reboot, the session seamlessly defaults to the staged image. For flatpaks, the updates happen immediately and without the need for a reboot.

That’s great to hear. Maybe I’ll give Silverblue a try

jack,

Our monthly jerkoff to Linux numbers

jack,

There are browser extensions like KeepassXC

jack,

I’m very interested in the secrets storage. Hopefully that includes integrating programs with GNOME Secrets, especially firefox

Ways to pirate music as convenient as Spotify?

The reason I gave up on MP3’s and subscribed to Spotify was because Spotify was easy. I’ve been listening “Iron Maiden - Empire of the Clouds” song every day and like a week ago, its removed. This was the last straw for me. Right now I’m trying to find “Stremio” of the music world. Can someone assist?...

jack, (edited )

Most songs are between 130 and 160kbps

Open-minded people can get into linux. You also have to be open-minded to consider being trans. My take is that linux and being trans are not directly influencing each other, but both increase your open-mindedness separately which in turn drives you towards more open topics generally

I made it to Linux! What is your must-have FOSS or Free Software for linux?

Thank you so much, comrades! I am feeling pretty comfortable with linux mint, and now would like some suggestions for some absolutely necessary FOSS or free license software for the OS. So far I have the standard, Firefox, ThunderBird, LibreOffice, yada yada. Thank you again to everyone on the linux comm! sankara-salute

Install everything as a flatpak, it is the future. Anything else will be outdated or can lead to headache (dependency issues).

Here’s a simple GUI video downloader.

Here are elegant, easy to use apps that cover many different needs.

EDIT: Tell me where I’m wrong

jack,

Xournal++ is for drawing over pdfs like MS OneNote

jack,

Just don’t use anything proprietary like Sync or Connect

jack,

Well the sun and your cells aren’t controlled by anyone, there is no one taking your choices away and profitting from that.

I see your point with offline games, I also wouldn’t consider them as malware.

I had regular programs in mind you use on a pc or smartphone

jack,

I don’t think restriction in society IRL is comparable to digital restriction. But we don’t have to agree.

jack,

No one is allowed to change and fix it but the developer, thus you are harmed by being dependent on the will and motivations of the dev. Increasing dependence is always malus

jack,

I only use one workspace and cycle through the programs with super+tab. IMO managing window placement is a waste of time

jack, (edited )

You’re not wrong. But you are talking about the extreme who won’t use anything non-FOSS. In general, it is fair to say that all proprietary software is malware.

jack,

Yes but that is irrelevant to their question

jack, (edited )

Fedora IS the most modern distro. First to adopt pipewire, systemd, enables flatpaks by default and btrfs. Probably other things I don’t know. Being first is one of their core goals

jack,

Most GNOME applications can be used without mouse

Do you also tell art critiques that they should paint something themselves first?
