My only budgeting is to earn much more than I spent so I don’t have to think too much about it. That means that I live quite frugal and other than food don’t really buy much on a regular basis.
I don’t think advertising the entire blog makes sense, but instead posting links to specific posts in the appropriate lemmy/reddit/facebook/mastodon community/group ao people get something out of it and then subscribe for more.

Sometimes I find a meme or a photo on Lemmy which I’d like to share with people who are not on Lemmy. But when I share a link to something with a picture like lemmy.world/post/9593902 and someone clicks on it, they see a very small thumbnail and a title, it’s not clear that you’re supposed to click on that thumbnail to see...

So there is this app claiming on-device iMessage functionality on Android. Seems cool but only has subscription based pricing. Does anyone know of a way to circumvent this?...
The only person I know who has an iPhone is my fiance and we use Matrix to communicate or Signal as a fallback if I fuck up the Matrix server. So this app is not really for me.
I really wonder how long it will take Apple to just be able to detect and block it.
I really wonder if this will make any people move from Chrome to Firefox at all because they can’t use their adblockers anymore. There are probably so few people that most of them already are on Firefox I guess.
2 days ago (see 2) I posted something into the !programmer_humor community which got almost 1000 upvotes (see 1) while the user numbers for the last week are at 131 (see 3), this doesn’t add up. How can 131 users upvote almost 1000 times?
I have been doing that, the biggest problem I have is that they alter your videos if there is any copyright audio in it. In one video there was a radio running in the background on a home video from the 90ies and people were talking. YouTube muted the full audio because of a copyright claim even though it was private.
Back in the day, around 2005 or 2006 I did that and I had browse the internet in a text based browser for 2 days because KDE on that old machine took two days to compile.
I couldn’t find the Flintstones movie from 1994 anywhere but googling it I found it here archive.org/details/the-flintstones_202304 and you can either download it via torrent or directly. On top of it it says that the movie is CC0 which means Public Domain. But that can’t really be, it’s only 29 years old....
There was a server I inherited from colleagues who resigned, mostly static HTML serving. I would occasionally do a apt update && apt ugrade to keep nginx and so updated and installed certbot because IT told me that this static HTML site should be served via HTTPS, fair enough.
Then I went on parental leave and someone blocked all outgoing internet access from the server. Now certbot can’t renew the certificate and I can’t run apt. Then I got a ticket to update nginx and they told me to use SSH to copy the files needed.
I’ve already been paying for YouTube Premium for many years to get rid of advertisement, and I’ve been using SponsorBlock for a year or so on my laptop to skip the inline ads, but because most of my watching of YouTube happens on the TV I always had to use the remote to skip it. It helps to see the “most rewind” area so...
Normally I don’t have much time to watch movies, and for the occasional one Netflix is good enough. But once a coupple of years there is a specific one I want to see which is not on Netflix....
I don’t think it should be done by a specific name, it should be user defined, I should be able to add the communities together which I deem that they do belong together for some reason.
I think the only reason is that they’re swamped with bug reports and more important feature requests so they didn’t have the time to implement it yet.
and probably many more. The devs are looking at the different approaches and commenting there, so you should be able to get a good picture how it’s going by reading the comments there.
