I prefer working at a desk with a full sized keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Often these days I end up using a laptop for this though. Mostly because being stuck in the “computer room” at all times isn’t fun.

No, each user is a “peer”, in Lemmy they access content through the instances.

They are talking something more like IPFS.

I don’t really know much about IPFS, but I think a downside to peer to peer is the potential for content to disappear because someone turns off their computer or quits whatever application. I can’t be the only person to have a torrent stall at 80% because the rest isn’t available in the network.

What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Other than your carrier give it for free or cheap, I don’t really see the reason why should you buy new phone. I’ve been using Redmi Note 9 for past 3 years and recently got my had on Poco F5. I don’t see the point of my ‘upgrade’. I sold it and come back to my Note 9. Gaming? Most of them are p2w or microtransaction...

Plenty of iPhone users rocking iOS 16 on the iPhone 8 (from 2017) with no trouble. For many iPhone users the longevity is one reason they use it. Others will always update to the latest and greatest.

No central authority means people do what they want. Maybe the mods there decide to suck at some point, or the instance admins suck, or the instance goes offline, or someone just felt like having their own.
