nixcamic,

This is Lemmy, you will receive a lecture.

nixcamic,

I visit friends in Chicago every year. There’s a place on the interstate that has been under construction for 5 years. It’s just like one lane they’ve been paving. What the heck?

nixcamic,

I’ve lived in 3 different countries in like 5 different climate zones and none of them had temperatures that fit nicely in the 0-100⁰F range.

nixcamic,

My man, most of us aren’t connecting to our mainframes on VT20s these days. Even on my phone screen the three extra lines nano takes over vi aren’t a problem.

Also if you have the time to go through all that you have the time to learn ctrl+x.

nixcamic,

This is just a weird shaped cloverleaf. Nothing to see here move along.

nixcamic,

IMO RMS already has the attitude of a billionaire. He’s a thoroughly weird man who says stuff he really shouldn’t then stands by it. He’s right about a lot of things when it comes to software, licensing, and open source in general but outside of that track he’s more than a little loopy.

I think it might be because he’s had to fight society so long for things he knew he was right about that now he doesn’t know how to have people tell him “no Richard, that’s ducked up”.

Anyhow, I don’t think him being a billionaire would be a good idea, him having enough funds to branch off into doing wherever strikes his fancy could be very bad.

And Linus, I love Linus but look at how he’s grown as a person and listened and changed how he interacts with other kernel developers. Would he still have been as receptive if he was a billionaire? Something tells me no.

nixcamic,

Brave little toaster has gotta be the reason so many of us millennials are so freaking weird.

nixcamic,

In this you can see they’re about the same depth.

nixcamic,

I’m enjoying these brief moments of Lemmy before it becomes mainstream. Who knows maybe it never will which is kinda bad but also kinda good.

nixcamic,

I had a doctor basically remove everything from my nose that could be removed including a bunch of the turbinates. It’s great I can actually breathe through it now.

nixcamic,

In fact, what I use is Maté (an English way of writing the Spanish word Mate).

As a Spanish speaker I’d just like to say

A: wtf is this even supposed to mean?
B: mate and maté are two entirely different words.
C: The mate desktop environment is named after hierba mate, no é.

If you’re gonna go though the trouble of installing a browser, why switch Microsoft for Google? They’re both evil and Edge actually performs significantly better than Chrome somehow (they’re basically the same I don’t get it).

Install freaking Firefox.

nixcamic,

Lemmy really feels like early Reddit right now. I mean that in a good way. And not to flex but I’m saying that as someone with a 16 year old Reddit account haha.

nixcamic,

This is why I don’t understand why anyone tech savvy isn’t using Firefox. There’s literally no cost. From a user standpoint they’re basically the same thing. The one that isn’t made by an evil monopoly is just the obvious choice.

nixcamic,

Mac: can you install this 10 year old program: no.

nixcamic, (edited )

And fake internet points.

And I’m sure top men are working on monetization.

That was me, I live in the tropics near the mountains where you can go from 42⁰ at crazy humidity near sea level to 15⁰ up around 2000m in about an hour’s drive. I lived near sea level and when we were kids we’d meet halfway with friends who lived in the mountains. They’d be running around in just swimsuits and I’d be sitting on the side wearing 3 layers.

nixcamic,

Where I live everything is on WhatsApp. You want to get ahold of a business: WhatsApp, friends organizing a party: WhatsApp, want to check the traffic: WhatsApp.

nixcamic,

The year of the netbsd desktop is finally here.

nixcamic,

If you have cannabis and morphine do you really need everything else?

nixcamic,

Why would you put home on ext4 instead of btrfs?

nixcamic,

The Apple one is basically the same as the Linux, detailed crash report with option to send to the dev.

nixcamic,

The problem is libertarian groups themselves don’t stand up against anarchists joining them. I remember Gary Johnson getting booed at an official libertarian party gathering for saying he believes in driver’s licences.

Also we already know how libertarianism ends, with robber barons controlling everything and people living in company towns. It’s a terrible political ideal.

nixcamic,

Unless you’re a cartoon villain with a redemption arc.

nixcamic,

Sometimes I won’t use Tumbleweed for a few months then boot it up and it will update every package on the system (literally full reinstall of the os and all installed software) faster than Windows can search for updates. What the heck?
