For homeassistant I had to add this in configuration.yaml

<span style="color:#323232;">http:
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> use_x_forwarded_for: true
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> trusted_proxies:
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> - 172.21.0.2
</span>

Where 172.21.0.2 is my NPM docker IP

Edit: its NPM IP and not HA like I wrote first time

Share your favorite automations

I’ve been running HA for a while, and it’s been working well; I haven’t had to change much in a few months. That being said, it’s fun to tinker with it, and I’m curious to hear what kind of automations the rest of the community is using. What automations are you most proud of? What are your favorite? What kind of...

rambos,

Not really common automation for HA, but I made medication assistant automations. Its super helpfull for people who take loads of meds. It tracks how many pills left, does android notifications or sets alarm and it also sends an email when its time to reorder meds. Its insane how usefull it is

rambos,

Pi NAS is a big pile of cables and adapters IMO. You can buy used PC with multiple SATA or M2 ports for 100€

rambos, (edited )

I don’t need, but wasn’t sure am I using full capacity of what I’m paying for and want to learn more. This is my hobby, I enjoy setting up things more than using the server lol edit: and yeah feels like CPU capped

rambos,

Yeah this seems right. My CPU utilization goes to 100% during speedtest and I have celeron 😆 Thank you!

rambos,

I know plex has some features that jellyfin doesnt, but it was time few years ago, at least for me

rambos,

I would rate radarr/sonarr with 10/10 and lidar 5/10. I dont think its bad, its probably too early stage or too hard to accomplish with music what radarr/sonarr can do with movies/shows. There are many artists/albums that dont exist in lidarr database and sometimes bad imports happen with wrong tracks. Yeah, and there is no jellyseer for music. I dont use it much, but I love it

rambos,

Afaik there is no primary and secondary, you cant tell which one to use. Its best to have 2 piholes, but having 2nd DNS set to nextdns or something like that should be fine if you cant run 2 instances, probably not the best setup tho

rambos,

Leave Servarr as last thing to setup because it requires many services to work together and even small mistake in config will make it not work. Its not hard, but it will be easier after you learn how to setup jellyfin or audiobookshelf.

I have no experience with your hardware, but after you install docker and docker-compose get Portainer and get familiar with docker compose. Portainer is simple gui that lets you manage all containers.

So for example, you get docker-compose example for jellyfin, eddit PUID, GUID, path to your library folder, copy that in Portainer Stacks, hit deploy and BAM! Your jellyfin is available on localhost:8096

You might face many issues in the begining, but dont give up, its getting more and more easy over time. I still think Im a noob, but have no problems with my 40ish containers running on poor home server 😉. Dont forget this community is awesome and helpfull

rambos,

I use jellyseer to grab movies and shows, there is also overseer for plex. I dont think you can run that in kodi, but looks like better approch to me anyway. There might be more options that Im not aware of

rambos,

Backblaze B2 is 6$ a month for 1TB and first 10GB is free. You pay proportionally (it cost me 2-3$ for last 7-8 months for 20-150 GB that accumulated over time). Keep in mind that you will spend more if you download backup, but you should use cloud backup as last resort anyway. I backup to 2nd local disk and also to B2 daily with Kopia. Didnt need backup fortunately, downloading from B2 small files ocasionally just for testing setup

Its not just cheaper, I love it because I dont have to deal with Gshit company

rambos,

There is an option to disable transcoding completely, try that. Also check is it working with subtitles disabled.

I used to have issues sometimes when I had rpi4 as media server

rambos,

I miss the days where you didn’t have to spend anything to pirate

Nothing changed with torrents afaik. Never tried streamio tho

I just deleted my entire library and redownloaded it.

A lot of my files were shitty 480p versions of movies from the Napster days. Now they’re all 1080p, with a few 720p exceptions (mainly tv series episodes). All in all 500 something files in total. Now just watching uTorrent slowly download them all. Hopefully my VPN keeps the eyes off of me…

rambos,

You can download and upload with no port forwarding. For some torrents you might not find peers, but whats even worse you will seed less

rambos,

Thank you all for tips. I got Aegis and backing it up to my selfhosted nextcloud. I will also keep google app in use for now, but I might get keypassxc or vaultwarden in the future

Cheers

rambos,

Thx, looks perfect!

rambos,

Most comments recommend aegis, Im installing it right now. Thx

rambos,

I was afraid of using keypassxc since I dont trust myself, but using it as a backup sounds like amazing solution. Thank you

rambos,

I had jellyfin and 20+ more containers on rpi4 4GB and didnt have that problem.

rambos,

I think you are good to go. Just chose distro (pop os for me) and be amazed how everything works out of the box.

Lot of people recommend libre office and its great, but in my experience Only Office is super compatible with ms office and its perfect for me. You can try only office on windows and see is it working for you. I bet it does.

I have few apps for work that cant run on linux, but thats mostly professional engineering software (cad, cam, nesting and few more) and some of them can probably be used with wine or simmilar.

Even if you want to play games linux is not far from windows today.

Im not advanced user, fully switched to linux only 6 months ago. just my 2c

rambos,

AirVPN cuz I dont know any other with port forwarding thats cheap like that
