I don’t see how swap has much chance to fragment. A swapfile has to be fully allocated up front and cannot be CoW. If it’s allocated well in the first place, it will stay that way.
The swap code doesn’t really do I/O through the filesystem. AIUI, it locks the file, gets the disk block #s from the FS, and after that it accesses those blocks directly.
For a little over a month now, when playing videos on firefox, VLC, or any other application, I get infrequent stutters. This is with or without hardware accelleration. It’s as if the video pauses briefly. If multiple videos are playing, even across different applications, each of them will be effected at the same time....
Hello everyone - I have been wanting to ditch windows on my gaming pc for a while now, and since I have recently finished a large project, I now have the free time to switch. I am relatively comfortable with Debian having used it for a while on my web server as well as school laptop, but I am concerned about using it on my...
Bluetooth audio is my least favorite part of using Linux and it seems like my coworkers agree. I hear a lot of praise for pipewire, but it doesn’t match what I experience. Does any system work well for anyone?...
I haven’t had much luck with XQ. I don’t believe that Bluetooth can reliably find enough bandwidth for it, unless you’re willing to blow up a few neighbor’s WiFi points/baby monitors/microwaves/weather radar stations.
Fun fact to keep in mind about your MX4 - if you use the “pair with two devices simultaneously” feature, the headphones shut off their LDAC support. All you get is the baseline audio codec. Nice, huh?
I am currently using Windows on an older HP Laptop, which I intend to replace with a Framework 16 by next summer, but my Desktop PC at home has been running EndeavourOS, my first ever Linux distro, since last summer, so I have some Arch-based experience....
Keep an eye on thermals with s-tui. You could down-throttle the processor with tlp. At some point you’ll probably have to deal with the thermal-transfer pad being bad or whatever, that is never a fun job on a laptop.
Heya folks, some people online told me I was doing partitions wrong, but I’ve been doing it this way for years. Since I’ve been doing it for years, I could be doing it in an outdated way, so I thought I should ask....
You missed their flirting because a good portion of your highschool class discovered that the absolute funniest gag in the world is to “flirt” with you.
Mythbusters is a great thing that we would all love to experience again in another medium, but that just wasn’t going to happen. It’s hard to even point to an existing good game that has the mechanics that you’d want from a Mythbusters. They could have gone Factorio, or an Infinifactory, but a goal of “maximize this” or “build this intended output” still doesn’t capture the scientific intent of extracting some tiny nugget of truth from a cold unfeeling universe. Straitjacketing the whole process into something scripted, or throwing a sandbox at the player and walking away, are about the only two approaches that a game could do.
It’s a shame that Valve couldn’t get Steam to issue them a new AppID, so they had to delete CSGO in order to put CS2 on the store. It was the only way.
On the plus side, snaps also crap your system log full of petty little AppArmor events. And when snap gets its permissions wrong, you can easily fix it with SnapSeal.
(If Flatpak would just fucking stop rewriting every file path as /var/run/1000/blah, it would be the unquestionably superior package tech)
