What do you think about this? (www.youtube.com)

Since i see so much linux talk on lemmy i got curious and watched a video about the common distros. How true is the information in this video? The person hardly describes why debian and arch are just better than every other distro. At least i’m definitely now curious about Mint or something for gaming.

some_guy,

Was hardcore CentOS for years before the flucksterfuck.

some_guy,

Oscar Meyer products. I’ve never eaten one knowingly and I plan to keep it that way.

some_guy,

You seem to have contempt for the people you’re describing. You would have had a winning comment if you had said the second sentence of the original comment and stopped. No need for the dismissive commentary.

some_guy,

It’s one of the best ways to avoid stupid shit.

New Fedora Slimbook 14" joins the Fedora Slimbook 16" - Fedora Magazine (fedoramagazine.org)

We heard your feedback during the launch of the Fedora Slimbook 16 and, along with the folks from Slimbook, bring you the new Fedora Slimbook 14, a smaller, lighter, cheaper with even better battery life, version of the Fedora Slimbook, powered by an Intel CPU and GPU (unfortunetely no AMD version soon).

some_guy,

Clicked out of interest, then remembered that I want nothing to do with the Red Hat trains.

some_guy, (edited )

I disagree. Someone who isn’t willing to try Linux on their own, or otherwise investigate, just because they’re curious is not ready for the baggage that comes with a new OS. Agreeing with another comment: don’t make this change at the same time as other major changes to your career. That is a recipe for disaster.

I’m a Mac / Linux guy who dislikes Windows. I wouldn’t even suggest getting a Mac at the same time as making huge career changes. And Linux is harder. Not impossible, but no training-wheels. You want something new, but you aren’t really interested in Linux itself.

ETA: That last statement was unfair. Apologies.

some_guy,

Oh noez! Now you’re actively feeding the Linux propaganda machine!

Congrats! Hope you enjoy your new device.

some_guy,

Sorry for not being able to offer insightful feedback. This caused me to look up current prices for 500GB spinning disks and holy shit. Something that used to be barely attainable (for me, then) is so cheap now that I said, “holy shit,” out loud.

some_guy,

We’ve been lazy pieces of shit longer than I’d realized.

some_guy,

This was the first actual out-loud laughter of my day. Thanks!

some_guy,

Only four were damaged. I’d like more info on how / why they were preserved so well. This is pretty awesome. What an incredible find.

If only history wasn’t taught as boring in high school. It’s so damn exciting. New stuff to admire almost every day.

some_guy,

This scenario pisses me off as I debate how pedantic to be.

some_guy,

This is the most-true meme of the year.

some_guy,

Half the reason I chuckled so hard. Tiny, new kitten. Old laptop from 2006. Great combo.

some_guy,

TIL

some_guy,

I thought of the limited series with Paul Giamatti on HBO when I hesitated on whether anyone had taken a lower office after being the pres. Not knowledgeable enough to say for sure when I posted. Insomnia now, so I’ll keep this in mind for when I’m learning more. Thanks!

some_guy,

When you have a boring, unironic, semi-artistic sex scene in a movie that’s not otherwise about sex, it’s just a distraction.

I don’t disagree. But I do see room to expand the definition.

Recently, I’ve been introducing my partner to The Sopranos for the first time (we’re in s3). I think there are legitimate depictions of sex in the series. They only appear briefly to help illustrate what types of people the characters are. They’re quick and out of the way. Like, oh, that guy’s fucking her, now let’s move on to the dialog that happens after. It’s when we see that these are characters who have sex as opposed to seeing the sex that makes the difference, imo.

some_guy,

I grew up during the time when sex scenes on HBO and Cinemax were the closest thing to porn on tv. I can’t think of a worse sex scene than The Specialist, with Sly Stallone. It was silly and unnecessary. I even found it weird as a teen. That says a lot. There were many scenes like this in many films.

You can include sex without dramatizing / showcasing it. I don’t blame young people for finding these old tropes to be a digression. See my other comment about sex in The Sopranos to confirm that I’m not anti-sex in media.

some_guy,

It’s far lamer to shoehorn in a long sex scene that doesn’t make sense. See sex in Sopranos, as I mentioned. It’s not overdone. It happens and we move on.

some_guy,

I guess you didn’t watch a lot of mainstream movies on HBO in the 90s. They were gratuitous at the time.

some_guy,

You’re right, but you’re missing the forrest for the trees. Deliberately, I think.
