Windows 10. I was originally okay with another windows version rather than just updates, and then my dad put it on his as an “upgrade” from 7. It was utter shit. Took an old but serviceable pc and turned it into fucking molasses. And that’s not even the worst of the bullshit, as it turned out.
So, I grabbed some CDs and burned on some distros and tried shit out. I liked what I found, with the exception of audio.
I’m definitely not obsessed. I don’t have brand loyalty, even when the brand is free as in beer. And I’m not evangelical in that I don’t inject linux into every fucking computer related conversation. But I do speak up for the fact that we aren’t stuck with only windows and no other options, and that I prefer Linux overall.
Now, I am a bit zealous about how much I fucking hate Microsoft and windows, but that’s a separate issue imo. But, again, I don’t inject that into every conversation.
Is that really a thing? I don’t usually get into discussions about DEs that often, and pretty much never irl. So I haven’t seen any general vibe at all.
Like, my impression of kde vs gnome is that they’re both very geared towards a more general user that’s going to be doing basic things, but with the ability to go more advanced as needed. I kinda assumed they were both going to draw people that are “basic” like the images in the meme for gnome, with cinnamon users also being in that range, where something like xfce would be for folks that want a bit more modularity and “hackiness”.
I’m not being a smartass, I just don’t really know if there’s more to the meme than just a bit of fun or not.
I kinda dig the bland crust. Not for eating, but for not eating. Like, sometimes you’d rather your calories come from toppings, and saving the crust for the next day to dip in those shitty marinara cups when you’re tired as hell is a good thing.
Like, not often, but sometimes.
Then again, we don’t do pizza often, and it’s usually when all adults are fucking wrecked via some bullshit or another that pushed us past our limits (both me and my wife are disabled, and my dad is old as fuck lol). If we want pizza to really enjoy I make it myself, or order it from the two yankees that set up a shop in town.
My crippled ass limps and canes my way to the nearest provided spot.
If I can do this with one leg that barely works, two bad knees, a bad back, and after a half hour+ of misery stumping around a grocery store, nobody not in a chair has an excuse. And it ain’t that hard to return a cart in a chair.
Since a lot of women have started to call their female friends “girlfriends”, I have to wonder how women with actual girlfriends have been dealing with this lol
Yeah, hate to break it to you, but it isn’t even just women/girls using it for platonic friends. Men/boys are too.
Not too surprisingly, that hasn’t happened with boyfriend that I’ve run across. Which is kinda fucked up when you consider what the difference in usage represents.
Sometimes I find myself shopping for things that I’d prefer to go out and get within the same day, but now I’d have to order and wait a few days to get…So I’m wondering what some of those things may be for you?
While it’s expensive, and this is a fairly low income area, I used to be able to get a couple of brands in-store.
But, because it’s expensive, and this is a low income area, it became a great way to get easy money. You go to the grocery store, pocket a couple of containers, then sell them on ebay. That’s enough money to get you to the end of the paycheck if you do it regularly. Enough people figured this out, and nobody carries it at all now. The only thing you can find is the badia, and even that isn’t in every store in the county. And it ain’t good saffron tbh.
Does this really bother folks that much? I’ve never cared much about this kind of leeching as long as it isn’t dominating my personal bandwidth. And it never has so far, though I have to admit my 4ish tb of movies isn’t exactly high demand stuff, so I don’t usually have more than one or two at a time being leeched.
Hell, I don’t really care much about leeches anyway, as long as the overall ability to find things is still there. I look at it as the price of the freedom of torrents. There’s always going to be higher demand for data than there are people with the resources/time/willingness to seed heavily. I’m okay with that because I don’t really want to have to keep and seed every fucking thing out there, it would take much more storage than I can afford to be able to keep a ratio on most private trackers since I tend not to keep shit I don’t intend to watch at least once a year unless it’s something pretty damn obscure.
Nah, in canon, it’s been shown to be resistant to similar types of coherent energy. It might slightly mar the surface because of the heat, but it wouldn’t cut it. And even the heat thing is my giving the light saber properties beyond what’s shown in film and in books.
That’s blast doors of an unspecified metal. If it follows the usual SW materials where such things are specified, they wouldn’t be exotic materials, they’d be alloys of standard metals on the real periodic table.
That’s why I say that I’m giving the benefit of the doubt to the light saber. They reach plasma temps, which is hot as hell, but wolvie has taken hits from plasma generated by technology and super powers. If it was a sustained thing, maybe; but a fight doesn’t allow for sustained contact.
I mean, obviously, it would depend on who was in charge of the writing decisions. But us nerds have to guesstimate as best we can. In SW universe there are exotics that can resist the sabers both under short and sustained contact. Adamantium is pretty exotic, and is canon about as close to indestructible as it gets.
Light sabers aren’t really meant to be unstoppable, they’re not an ultimate weapon. They’re a high tech, very effective sword that uses coherent energy that generates high heat on contact. There’s limits the what they can do.
It’s one of those things where sabers have been written to have limits more often than Adamantium has, so I err on that side of things.
Whew, you’d better stay away from “one in a million” by guns n roses then!
Of course, the two songs are very different, but if you have ever only heard the “radio” version of OIAM (which still doesn’t get played on radio) and then hear the original, you’ll shit yourself.
They’re completely opposite in intent and usage. Dire straits are poking fun at an idiot saying the things in the song. Axl Rose was saying what he thought in the worst possible way. Dude is batshit, and a homophobe. Well, was for sure, I guess even someone that much of an asshole could have changed by now.
Kinda sucks because the song itself isn’t bad, just really nasty. Like, as a slice of life from a person that’s full of anger and hate and wants to run away from his self generated fears, the song is successful. It paints a realistic picture of not only the person that wrote it, but of people that think like that. It’s just really hard to listen to because of that accurate slice of hate.
I dunno, it’s kinda rolling the dice. You can get really lucky sometimes. Even if the person doesn’t necessarily care about the stuff, they pick up what other people say, and would know what gets bought the most. That’s better than nothing at times.
And then you can get really lucky and find someone that knows their shit.
So it never hurts to ask, though you may get an actual eye roll lol
I don’t hate the original version. But it has so many flaws, I’ve never watched it a second time. Just not a true-to-the-spirit comic adaptation. I never care about direct copying of plots from comics, and I’m very open to modified back stories as well; after all, the tradition of alternate realities in comics is canon.
But they need to stay true to the spirit of the character/s. If they can’t do that, then there’s no point in it. If you make a Spider-Man movie/show and he’s this grim, uber-serious person, it isn’t going to work (most of the time)
And that’s where the first suicide squad failed. Pretty much, Harley was the only one that was close enough to their “spirit” for it to work. Everyone else felt like they just copied the look partially, then wrote without bothering to read anything about the character.
Comics have that freedom in a way book adaptations don’t. Books and comics made into movies trade on the idea of established fan bases being the initial “butts in seats”. With books, established fans expect not only the characters, but the plots to adhere to the printed original (otherwise, it isn’t the same thing at all, and they might as well just call it a parody and be done). But comic fans love a good alternate reality. But if the company can’t be bothered to understand the characters that make such things interesting in the first place, it’s a fail.

What caused you to get into it, are you an evangel and are you obsessed?

this is just a meme, I know that everyone is different and not all GNOME or KDE users are like that!!

I am ashamed that I hadn’t reasoned this through given all the rubbish digital services have pulled with “purchases” being lies.
