Do you mean the law doesn’t allow forcing the VPN service to comply with VPN log requests by authorities?

And what do you mean by “completely separate”?

Proton VPN… is operated by the Swiss company Proton AG, the company behind the email service Proton Mail.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton_VPN

sqgl,

I suppose they now keep logs of their VPN service too then.

Starting to use "soulseek" do I need VPN

So I use a VPN when torrenting as per usual but with Soulseek I wish to share my music with others and that requires me to open a port. I have no problem doing so I just do not pay for a VPN that can do this at the current price I am paying. Is it possible/what are the chances of me getting in trouble ISP wise from using...

sqgl,

Other users do not have your IP address. It is not like torrenting.

sqgl,

And now they will probably overcompensate with frustrating security theatre beyond sensible precautions.

sqgl,

Legally possible because Israel is not a party to the convention on cluster munitions. Neither Ukraine nor Russia are either.

I can’t imagine cluster bombs being useful in urban warfare though.

sqgl,

I guess that is like trying to discuss who the trainer of the football team is with a guy in the grandstand who just wants to throw beer cans at the opposition.

sqgl,

OK. By the way Israel always has coalition governments so there are several parties in this coalition although the largest component is Likud. The war cabinet is only Likud and National Unity (party led by Benny Gantz).

sqgl,

I once did the sums to calculate that USA could have afforded a run a gun buyback scheme (like Australia) rather than invade Iraq, you know… to cut down on Americans killing Americans.

50-50 here

Firstly this is a non-story of try-hard outrage. Secondly, the real concern of bombing was addressed just today by Biden who sees through Bibi’s ultra-conservative agenda and publicly criticised him for it.

sqgl,

16⁰C is not the temperature they were sitting in. What is wrong with you? How many times must you be told?

sqgl, (edited )

Sorry. I misjudged you. Been on Reddit too long. No room for nuance there.

The significance is that media is still often relaying Hamas claims as if fact and you might have been relying wholly on such reports.

That hospital incident was clearly Hamas bs from the outset - no photos, a video of the carpark leaked within 24 hours, Al Jazeera themselves unwittingly streamed live footage of the misfiring rocket.

Dozens of cancer patients could die as Gaza’s main cancer treatment hospital forced to stop most activities over fuel shortage, UN says (news.un.org)

The UN human rights office OHCHR noted that given the high number of civilian deaths and injuries in Gaza “and the scale of the destruction following Israeli airstrikes on Jabalia refugee camp, there are “serious concerns that these are disproportionate attacks that could amount to war crimes.”

sqgl,

Hamas is maintaining a stockpile of more than 200,000 gallons of fuel for the rockets it fires into Israel and the generators that provide clean air and electricity to its network of underground tunnels, according to U.S. officials, current and former Israeli officials and academics.

nbcnews.com/…/hamas-hoarding-vast-amounts-fuel-ga…

Israel released photos of Hamas fuel stores however I don’t understand how they can know if there is anything in them.

Maybe night time infrared imagery indicates that full ones retain heat? (And maybe water would retain it differently?). But even if we presume that is possible, why don’t IDF just bomb them if they are so sure it is Hamas fuel?

Nothing was ever given to them, only taken

Who is “them”? I was talking about the land given to Jews by the colonisers: England and France.

The 6 day war had a larger army on the Arab side. I dunno how much financial backing Israel had from USA or how it compared with the backing (if any) by the Arab oil states and I doubt you know or care either.

I am trying to learn here, but you just insist on lazy mud slinging. Blocking you.

it was Palestine which refused a two state solution several times.

I thought there was a trial period of the 2SS but it failed because the PLO leadership was corrupt - Palestinians shamed two ministers into quitting but Arafat refused to quit.

That was my takeaway from the Wikipedia entry anyhow.

However I did watch a documentary once about Shin Bet (interviewing many ex Shin Bet leaders) which gave the impression that the 2SS failed because of Jewish religious zealots who assassinated one of the 2SS architects: Rabin.

Can someone clarify please?

sqgl, (edited )

Why do i keep hearing it described like losing a game?

What do you mean by “it”?

I thought we were talking specifically about changes to the borders of what was given to them (irresponsibly?) by the Allies after WW2.

The 6 day war in 1967 was initiated by surrounding Arab countries. Israel won that war and expanded into the Sinai and Gaza (Egypt), Golan Heights (Syria), West Bank and East Jerusalem (Jordan). They didn’t initiate the expansion. They then returned the Sinai to Egypt.

Admittedly after that they did take more without provocation. The chipping away with settlements is happening to this very day.

I just rewatched the above video in order to spell out the details. It is all new to me. Have a look yourself if you are genuinely interested in discussing the conflict. It really is well made and easy to follow (I dunno if there are errors though).

sqgl,

Bibi is in power because of religious zealots (and just under half of Israel hated him for it).

sqgl,

Brendan Behan quote: The terrorist is the one with the small bomb.

sqgl,

Was it with an iron fist though? Genuine question because I know zero about that period.

sqgl, (edited )

What vote? I wasn’t talking about any election and neither was blazera (who correctly said Jews were given the land).

I was talking about the 6 day war. Great animation showing the history here youtu.be/m19F4IHTVGc/

sqgl,

I put it in both this time. There is so little content on Lemmy. Still early days. Why c/ prefix? c for community? (vs r for Reddit)

sqgl,

Sorry, am new. I saw this other relatively trivial Trump post approved here so I thought it was OK.

I won’t leave it to the mods. Will police myself in future.

sqgl,

So maybe they are only performing token work at the moment? Handing in documents late, not bothering to read evidence etc

That is brilliant actually.

Most lawyers do the minimum work possible anyhow in my experience — have ditched four so far.

The very first one failed to write the letter he promised and yet billed me for our one hour meeting (where he failed to disclose costs). I naively thought he was an anomaly. I did win my case with my fifth lawyer eventually.

sqgl,

To their credit, the g20 video they streamed alongside their false commentary is enough to discredit their interpretation of events.

It isn’t “to their credit”. They slipped up by including the visual evidence which proves their reporter lied. The reporter was on site, not in a studio.

The hospital was not hit by a missile. The car park was. There was no way 500 people were sleeping there. The footage was available the same day.

In addition, AJ streamed live footage of missiles from Gaza including the one which turned around and (presumably) hit the hospital.

Meanwhile zero images of the hospital being hit have been released to this day.

I doubt Israeli newspapers are any better but AJ messed up big time.
