unknowing8343,

Should be a good move but for some reason things are not evolving as fast as they should.

unknowing8343,

Do you really think these years existed?

unknowing8343,

If you said it also happened with XFCE then it’s definitely not because of Wayland

unknowing8343,

Here’s the sad truth that Wayland haters hate: Wayland is way more performant and streamlined. X11 is an overly patched mess.

Everytime I had to install a distro, EVERYTIME I had to do some textfile hacking to avoid screen tearing with X11. Turns out in Wayland that is a virtually impossible bug.

Forget about making touchscreens work properly in X11, specially with a secondary screen.

I also remember all the weird bugs that appear in X11 when you have 2 screens with different scaling. No issue at all with Wayland.

Pretty basic stuff in any modern setup.

Wayland performs perfectly on platforms like KDE Plasma or Gnome. I miss no feature. It just requires that some propietary apps realise its potential. And that is what is already happening and will happen throughout 2024.

unknowing8343,

I strongly suggest to try Libretube, it’s better IMO.

unknowing8343,

All I can say is that I listen to Huberman’s podcasts on FreeTube and God bless the people who sponsorblock his videos.

unknowing8343,

I started to use it recently so I am not speaking for myself, but I have a friend who is a hardcore user that says that the key is that you must follow users who actually review content, and that it is specially interesting if these people have similar tastes to you. You can, for example, follow Martin Scorsese’s user and you’ll see his reviews.

(solved) I can't get my linux system to run properly

I chose to use opensuse tw kde based on some vm tests. The installation was easy but for some reason the video playback on youtube is terrible. It stutters. First thing I did after install was to use opi to install codecs. Then I used Yast to get the Nvidia repo. Lastly, I used the software manager to install the video g06...

Newish Kindle (basic) user here. Any issue aside from battery life to justify airplane mode always on?

Being able to translate or look stuff up on Wikipedia is amazing for me.

unknowing8343,

I find this one fairly useless nowadays, maybe except for a couple websites. But even Wikipedia nowadays has a native dark mode.

unknowing8343,

I’ve been doing my research and I feel that opus should be the way to go? Can have chapters and compression is the best there is. I read that m4b keeps track of where you left… but I feel that that should not be the task of an audio file?

Louis Rossman/FUTO's YouTube app, GrayJay, now supports Sponsorblock... and shames you if you use it

Seriously this was very surprising. I’ve been experimenting with GrayJay since it was announced and I largely think it’s a pretty sweet app. I know there are concerns over how it isn’t “true open source” but it’s a hell of a lot more open than ReVanced. Plus, I like the general design and philosophy of the app....

How sure are you that your view through NewPipe is getting counted on YouTube statistics so that the channel is getting a proper measure of reach?

Because I am not so sure the view is being counted, and much less the (not)viewing of the sponsorblock segment.

unknowing8343,

Every Christmas, to the most used projects of the year (that are not rich already).

I was an Invidious user until I found out about Libretube, and the fact that on Libretube and even on a Piped website you can login to get your subs from other instances. That is crazy useful.

So I am full Piped for now.

unknowing8343,

There was a momentary bug, but it was fixed quickly. I recommend not using the F-droid repo, because new releases take days and days to arrive, rather use Izzy-on-droid if possible.

unknowing8343,

But Hot is broken in Lemmy, it shows old stuff like it’s hot. The system is broken, but I think there is a PR on the way.

unknowing8343,

This is not the community for asking these questions. Read the guidelines.

I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?

To my knowledge there’s no stagnant water on my property, I’ve run water through all my ptraps, and I’m careful to not leave doors open. Yet at any given time there’s at least 3 in my house. I can’t sleep, i can’t sit on the couch, i can’t exist in the fear of being sucked dry....

unknowing8343,

unknowing8343,

The standardization has not gotten yet to your frontend, it seems.

I have to say that I feel that currently the most consumed contents in the Internet are mostly human-written; and my proof is actually that it is now when the tendency is clearly changing. I have stumbled upon a few AI-generated articles already in the past few months, without looking for them specifically. You could tell because it sometimes focuses on weird details, or even I have seen l some kind of

as an AI, I do not have an opinion on the subject […]

which is so funny when you see it.

So, yeah, it is definitely starting to happen, and in the next few years I wouldn’t be surprised if 30 to 50 % of articles are just AI blorbs built for clicks.

How to avoid this? We can’t. The only way would be to shut down the Internet, forbid computers and go back to a simpler life. And that, for many reasons will not happen unless some world-class destruction event happens.

unknowing8343,

I find this very much like a dream that will… stay a dream. Who defines human-curated websites or true journalism if I don’t even really know you are an AI bot?

Also, who says people will not like AI content? Because the world will still be full of the same people who buy Apple products and piss on “green bubble” people.
