wahming,

I haven’t even gone into my personal opinions, but gj on deducing them.

Just what the fediverse needs. Another pit of toxicity and baseless witch hunting.

wahming,

Based on OP’s comments on this thread, I can only imagine what the modding of the community is going to look like

Cryptographers Just Got Closer to Enabling Fully Private Internet Searches (www.wired.com)

" three researchers have crafted a long-sought version of private information retrieval and extended it to build a more general privacy strategy. The work, which received a Best Paper Award in June 2023 at the annual Symposium on Theory of Computing, topples a major theoretical barrier on the way to a truly private search."

wahming,

It’s already drowned out by low quality SEO spam, so no difference

wahming,

It’s hard to tell from OP’s English, but I think he’s just running low on space?

‘It’s difficult to survive’: China’s LGBTQ+ advocates face jail and forced confession (www.theguardian.com)

In recent years, China’s LGBTQ+ community has been swept up in the Chinese Communist party’s broader crackdown on civil society and freedom of expression. In May 2023, a well known LGBTQ+ advocacy group in Beijing announced it was closing due to “unavoidable” circumstances. Last February, two university students filed a...

wahming,

Did you read the article beyond the first paragraph? ONE case was related to a ‘kidnapping’ accusation. The rest of the examples have been about systematic persecution of LGBT related parties

wahming,

That’s a really tough laptop, I’d get that

wahming,

If you think about it, the pieces of shit deserve exactly that copy of themselves too!

Proton Mail CEO Calls New Address Verification Feature 'Blockchain in a Very Pure Form' (tech.slashdot.org)

Proton Mail, the leading privacy-focused email service, is making its first foray into blockchain technology with Key Transparency, which will allow users to verify email addresses. From a report: In an interview with Fortune, CEO and founder Andy Yen made clear that although the new feature uses blockchain, the key technology...

wahming,

It’s not like we’re controlling spam today by keeping email addresses hidden.

wahming,

IRL, the show got cancelled after the 2nd panel

wahming,

The point being, if you’re an IT guy who supports the idea and yet can’t find the motivation to do it, do you honestly think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell of anybody else doing it?

wahming,

You’re not wrong, but realistically, there’s no chance of it happening.

wahming,

Wait, so… you’re advocating for the average user to self-host, but it turns out you don’t even do it yourself?

wahming,

Host your own videos where? The average user isn’t likely to start hosting their own file server

wahming,

Sees title, checks modlog… like, wtf. You had a comment removed because you were cursing others. No ban, nothing, just a comment removal. Talk about an overreaction.

wahming,

That’s probably less on the city and more on whichever of your neighbours were making false reports to the authorities

wahming,

Yeah, like Naomi Wu, famous in the maker community, who tried her best to provide a nuanced view of China before pissing off the wrong group of people and going radio silent for good.

wahming,

Thanks for displaying your ignorance. You obviously don’t know her story, because she’s never been openly critical of China. Rather, she’s always tried to be an ambassador for China within her community. Unfortunately, some of her actions pissed off the wrong people.

wahming,

Just gonna drop an article about Naomi Wu, famous maker, as a counterpoint to all those who keep claiming free speech exists in China.

Westerners? I’m foreign-born Chinese, and you couldn’t pay me to enter China. My anti-ccp sentiments combined with their sense of ownership of all Chinese people regardless of birth nation means I’m probably on a low priority list somewhere.

My 48yr old unopened bottle of beer. (Circa 1975) (i.imgur.com)

I saw the String cheese post so I thought I’d share my own “slightly beyond best before date” consumable. I used to have two of them that I had found in my attic under some insulation, but the other one froze in my garage and broke open. (No, it did NOT smell pleasant. I’m pretty sure whatever vile liquid is in that...
